00:0000:48 Los Angeles mayor headed to IowaTheHill.com Autoplay: On | OffPresident Trump is moving ahead with his plan to ban most transgender people from serving in the military, with limited exceptions, following up on a proposal he called for last summer. The White House issued a memorandum late Friday on policies determined by Defense Secretary Jim Mattis, stating that transgender people are "disqualified from military service except under limited circumstances." The memo, filed in U.S. District Court in Seattle, states that "transgender persons with a history or diagnosis of gender dysphoria -- individuals who the policies state may require substantial medical treatment, including medications and surgery -- are disqualified from military service except under certain limited circumstances." Mattis will have some leeway in implementing the policy, the memo states, as will Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen when it comes to the Coast Guard. The ban is something Mattis "concluded should be adopted," it notes. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders issued a statement saying that the decision to implement the ban came after "extensive study by senior uniformed and civilian leaders, including combat veterans." "This new policy will enable the military to apply well-established mental and physical health standards—including those regarding the use of medical drugs—equally to all individuals who want to join and fight for the best military force the world has ever seen," Sanders said. LGBT advocates quickly denounced the move, which they say is expected to be constrained by existing court orders unless there is further court action. 14 February 2018 By Jessica Hamzelou A 30-year-old transgender woman has become the first officially recorded to breastfeed her baby. An experimental three-and-a-half-month treatment regimen, which included hormones, a nausea drug and breast stimulation, enabled the woman to produce 227 grams of milk a day. “This is a very big deal,” says Joshua Safer of Boston Medical Center, who was not involved with the treatment. “Many transgender women are looking to have as many of the experiences of non-transgender women as they can, so I can see this will be extremely popular.” The transgender woman had been receiving feminising hormonal treatments for several years before she started the lactation treatment. These included spironolactone, which is thought to block the effects of testosterone, and progesterone and a type of oestrogen. This regimen enabled her to develop breasts that looked fully grown, according to a medical scale that assesses breast development based on appearance. She had not had any breast augmentation surgery. When her partner was five-and-a-half-months pregnant, the woman sought medical treatment from Tamar Reisman and Zil Goldstein at Mount Sinai’s Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery in New York City. Her partner had no interest in breastfeeding, she explained, so she would like to take on that role instead. If this doesn't spark outrage it will feel pretty hopeless. This is a christian fundamentalist assault on the first amendment led by the highest office of our government against the Centers for Disease Control, a governmental organization dedicated to health and wellbeing. This is a promotion of ignorance and exclusion, inhumane and un-American, preferring superstitious cruelties to scientific exploration and enlightened actions. I would urge everyone to share this and express your deepest concern.

BaldorWASHINGTON — The Pentagon says an active duty service member has received gender-reassignment surgery, amid ongoing debate over whether transgender troops should be allowed to continue to serve in the military. Defense Department spokeswoman Dana White says the surgery was done Tuesday in a private hospital. This Fresno school’s ‘modern families’ want Ashjian out after LGBT comments SEPTEMBER 06, 2017 11:37 AM
Alana Franklin stood up at Dailey Elementary Charter School with a message for Fresno Unified School Board President Brooke Ashjian: She’s not going away. Franklin, who identifies as queer, has a kindergartner at Dailey and is pregnant with a child who will also likely enroll in the school district. “(Ashjian) has the freedom of speech to say whatever he wants but believe me … I will definitely be using my freedom of speech, too,” she said. “And it’s going to be a long 20 years.” Franklin joined other LGBT families and allies of the Fresno charter school on Tuesday to call for Ashjian to be removed from the school’s board of directors – and the district altogether. The International Baccalaureate school prides itself on inclusion and diversity, something that Dailey’s so-called “modern families” say Ashjian does not value.

LGBTQ Americans have caused the country billions of dollars in structural damage, killed dozens of people, and displaced thousands more from their homes, according to the evangelical figures who believe gay people caused Hurricane Harvey. Despite overwhelming evid ence that adverse weather and climate change had a hand to play in the storm that has devastated parts of Texas, numerous voices emerged that suggested the biblical proportions of the flood were, well, literally biblical. The Sacramento Bee | 6 Sep 2017 | by Adam AshtonA pair of transgender California residents who have taken steps to join the armed forces and a group of four military service members are filing a lawsuit on Tuesday against President Donald Trump that aims to block his order banning transgender people from joining the armed forces. Their lawsuit, backed by the advocacy group Equality California, is the fourth legal challenge to Trump's Aug. 25 directive prohibiting transgender people from joining the military and banning military healthcare plans from funding sex-reassignment surgeries. The plantiffs in the new lawsuit include Aiden Stockman, 20, of Yucca Valley, who has identified as a transgender male since the eighth grade; and Tamasyn Reeves, 29, who first attempted to join the Navy when she was blocked by the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy that banned gay people from serving openly in the military. Stockman had been preparing to enlist in the Air Force and worries that Trump's order will prevent him from joining the military. He delayed enlisting last year because he wanted to complete a double mastectomy before joining the Air Force, the lawsuit says. "I'm in physical good shape, nothing will hold me back from excelling in a branch, it bums me out," he told the TV station KMIR in July after Trump's wrote on Twitter that he would ban transgender people from the military.
