We do these things not only because they're right, but because they make us safer."" --huffingtonpost.com Transgender Individuals Recognized For First Time Ever In A State Of The Union Speech

You have to use it a couple times a day in many cases,” Keisling told Holmes, “In our post-9/11 world, you can’t have a job … you can’t go shopping, you can’t, you know, buy a beer, you can’t open a bank account. So you can’t participate fully in society unless you have ID that matches who you are.”" --advocate.com Mara Keisling on MSNBC: Trans People Need Proper ID to 'Participate Fully in Society'
Written by Lisa Neff, Staff writer Oct 22, 2012 LGBT groups say new, stricter voter ID laws in some states – and even confusion about what laws are enforceable on Nov. 6 – threaten the rights of thousands of transgender voters. “New voter ID laws have created costly barriers to voting for many trans people,” said Mara Keisling, executive director of the National Center for Transgender Equality. “And much worse, the debate about voter ID laws has made even the idea of voting harder, so many of us may feel discouraged from even trying to vote on Election Day. Our message is: Don’t let them scare you into giving up your vote.” -wisconsingazette.com New laws puts transgender voting rights at risk ______________________________________ See also:

Cooper repeatedly challenged Mandi on whether she questioned her identity before taking Propecia, which in part uses hormones to fight male baldness." -advocate.com Trans Activists Say Anderson Cooper Destroyed His Reputation With Interview _____________________________________________________________ I have to disagree with Mara Keisling in condemning Cooper for this episode. It seems to me that his questions discredited this individual, and highlighted him as the attention whore he appears to be. OR, the individual is transgender, and is trying to use a drug as an "out" in an attempt to avoid the stigma associated with being trans. But then, I'm going by the quoted material in the article - I didn't see the episode. -Michael
