Scalise’s life was saved by a lesbian police officer who shot and killed the attacker. Scalise has said the incident did not change his mind about gun control or LGBT rights." -lgbtqnation.com Trump will become first president to speak at hate group gathering

    Cruz: Go at Home

Zack Ford Apr 26, 2016 9:18 am "“Every one of us has the right to live our lives as we wish,” he said. “If any one of us wants to dress up as a woman or man and wants to live as woman or man and believes that we might be something other than what we were born, God has made each of us with free will and the ability to choose to do that if man to wants to dress as a woman, and live as a woman, and have a bathroom at home.”" --thinkprogress.org Ted Cruz Doesn’t Want Any Transgender People In Any Bathroom Anywhere

    Barr Loses "Ally" Status

Dan Avery, Oct 26, 2012 Presidential candidate Roseanne Barr isn’t known for holding her piece. But the actress-activist has upset members of the transgender community with some comments she posted on Twitter. When one of her Twitter followers mentioned that Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein “is also in favour of letting men into spaces where little girls get changed.”—a reference to Stein’s support for trans rights—Barr tweeted back, “if she has a penis she is not allowed in.” -queerty.com Roseanne Barr Gets Into Twitter Twist-Up Over Transgender Comments _______________________________________________________ Perhaps I don't know enough about Barr, but personally, this doesn't surprise me. I enjoyed her when she had her own sit-com (Roseanne, 1988-97), but other than that, her brash, in-your-face, "eff-you-and-the-horse-you-rode-in-on" has never set well with me. She seems to get worse with age. -dml

    Silly people in the street

As I walked home today, I was behind a person who ran into someone he knows and said - quite loud - "men trying to become women, that [bleep] burns me up." He was ahead of me, so I don't know if it was directed at me (he may have turned and noticed). Anyway, I didn't confront him (I don't make a habit of confronting random idiots on the street, seems like a wise course), but my thought was "well that's not right, i'm not a man trying to become a woman, i'm a woman no longer trying to be a man." I channeled it more "productively" on twitter with the following: Transgender 101: "Transitioning" isn't going from woman to man or man to woman, it's going from fake to authentic. #GirlsLikeUs If anyone is on twitter i'm ChristieCNY It was nice taking a negative and going positive in response. I'm so much better as a woman than I ever could have been as a man
  5. Lucas Grindley | March 30 2015 2:55 AM ET "The joke sparked negative headlines all over entertainment media and was a huge dud on social media, which called out Foxx as transphobic. Perez Hilton tweeted, "Boo! Shame on you #iHeartAwards for allowing @iamjamiefoxx to be transphobic on national television! Those #BruceJenner jokes were wrong!!!"" -- advocate.com Jamie Foxx Called Out for Crossing Line on Bruce Jenner Jokes _______________________________________________________________________ I didn't seem to hear any "booing" in the video clip of Foxx's poor humour. To the contrary, there was laughter, and you could hear and see some audience members clapping. In fact, before Foxx dropped the first "joke," just the mention of Jenner's name elicited laughter... as if in anticipation of something to do with Jenners gender identity. -Michael
  6. Parker Marie Molloy | June 06 2014 5:52 PM ET "During an April debate over Houston’s transgender-inclusive nondiscrimination ordinance, local pastor Kendall Baker voiced opposition to the measure, claiming that providing trans people equal access to public accommodations would result in an increase in bathroom-related sexual harassment and assault. As it turns out, Pastor Baker has himself been accused of sexual harassment, according to Houston's News 92 radio station." --advocate.com Transphobic Houston Pastor Embroiled in Harassment Accusations

    Baltimore Woman Murdered

Parker Marie Molloy | June 04 2014 4:37 PM ET "Hall lived on the 4000 block of Raymonn Street, and is believed to have been the victim of a homicide, suffering from massive trauma to her body. Paramedics pronounced her dead on the scene. An autopsy will be performed to determine her official cause of death." --advocate.com Trans Woman Found Murdered in Baltimore
  8. Two decades after a Nebraska transgender man was brutally murdered, what has changed in the world of transgender rights? Parker Marie Molloy | January 02 2014 5:13 PM ET "Just days before these events, Teena was publicly outed as a transgender man after his birth name was published in the local newspaper following his arrest for forging checks. Apparently enraged to find that their friend was transgender, Lotter and Nissen set out to committ these acts of hate and malice." --advocate.com 20 Years After Brandon Teena's Death, Trans Rights Still Have a Long Way to Go
  9. Russian woman who lost her job, her family and her home is being described as the 'first victim of gay propaganda' 21 October 2013 | By Joe Morgan " She had just been given a mortgage so she could buy her own apartment, had bought a car and was ready to go travelling." --gaystarnews.com Trans woman, 22, kills herself after being sacked by Putin’s laws _______________________________ We hear so much about the rampant homophobia, and the homophobic laws in Russia. Ironic that what may be the first person to really feel the full brunt of Putin's bullcrap... is a [trans]woman. -M

Trans Murders Double that of Gays

The Huffington Post | By James Nichols Posted: 08/27/2013 4:20 pm EDT | Updated: 08/27/2013 4:20 pm EDT "These incidents of transgender violence barely begin to scratch the surface of not only physical violence against trans people, but the emotional and verbal abuse trans individuals, particularly trans women of color, experience on a daily basis. Vigils for slain transgender women and men have to be organized on an alarmingly regular basis, both locally and abroad." --huffingtonpost.com Transgender Murders 50 Percent Higher Than Gays, Lesbians In July
  11. Wednesday, August 21, 2013 "FONTANA, Calif. — A transgender woman was found murdered in her Southern California apartment on Tuesday, with evidence of a violent struggle." --lgbtqnation.com Transgender woman who appeared in online reality series found murdered (w/Video) _____________________________ I realize not every crime against someone from the TGLB community is a hate crime, but if someone was hurt due to hate, then it should be addressed. I find it mind-boggling how it seems that everytime a [trans]person is murdered, the first thing out of authorities (after they mis-gender the victim), is that it was not, or is not believed to be, a "hate crime." I realize that authorities must and should work with facts, but in this case they have no motive yet (or there was no motive at the time of this article), so if they have no motive, how can they say yet whether this woman's murder was a hate crime or not? <scratching head>
  12. Eyewitnesses claim London police officers threw a trans person to the ground, handcuffed her and caused deliberate pain while saying she is 'not normal' 21 February 2013 | By Dan Littauer " A trans person was violently handled, abused and arrested by the police, in broad daylight in the heart of London's gay quarter, according to eyewitnesses." --gaystarnews.com London police accussed of mocking sick trans in 'brutal arrest' _______________________________ This article [unwitingly] highlights what appears to be classic gay indifference of transpeople on the part of the two gay men who were interviewed - despite their claim of being horrified with what happened. It was well into the interview before they even used any pronouns for the victim (and inconsistently at that)...and then could only say the victim had been subjected to homophobia instead of transphobia. As a part of the LGBT community, they should be familiar with such terms and the difference. But it seems always that is transpeople who seem to be well versed in all aspects of sex and gender, and make an effort to respect others by referring to them properly. -Mike
  13. Burchill anti-trans rant sparks protests at the Observer and Telegraph newspapers against media hate speech 18 January 2013 | By Ray Filar " Sick of lazy media misrepresentation, vilification and outright hate speech, trans people and allies in the UK have, over the last two weeks, become visible." --gaystarnews.com Trans Brits demand to be freed from a hate-filled media See related:
  14. Filed: Tuesday, December 11, 2012 "WASHINGTON -- Two Washington D.C.-based radio announcers were suspended Tuesday following a brief, on-air apology for remarks made during a broadcast last week in which they referred to a transgender female basketball player as "he/she" and "it." "Ludwig was the subject of a lengthy article that appeared in USA Today last Wednesday, prompting an on-air discussion the following day between Pollin, Czaban, and Maryland basketball analyst Chris Knoche." --lgbtqnation.com ESPN radio hosts suspended following transphobic broadcast(w/Audio)

  19. 31 May 2012 "Does the star of Channel 4’s Very Important People congratulate herself when she spies a woman with large shoes? Does she smile and think “Ah, look, it’s one of those trannies”, or is she humble; does she see it as an easy-peasy guessing game? I can only speculate." -Paris Lees, independent.co.uk Heard the one about the ladyboy? Media jokes about trans people are not acceptable
  20. Am I being too sensitive? I’m not sure if anyone here is familiar with it but I just watched an episode of “Big Bang Theory” and there was a character pretending to be Sheldon’s cousin (part of a lie to Penny, concocted by Sheldon) Leopold or “Leo” ended up staying at Sheldon and Leonard’s place. The whole story is unimportant so I’ll get to the part that bothered me. Cousin “Leo” is supposed to be a recovering addict and when Penny asks Leo how he’s doing, he responds with “I don’t know Penny, have you ever woke up in a flea bag hotel covered in your own vomit next to a transsexual prostitute?” It was unnerving for me and then I was really bothered when the episode concluded with Penny and Leo on a couch watching TV and Penny says something to the effect of “you seem a lot better Leo” and Leo says “Things are slowly getting better Penny, at least I’m not worrying if you’re a dude down there (looking toward her lap)”.Puts his head on her shoulder and says “Yep, things are getting better”. I used to realy like that show ... that kind of discrimination breeds hate Beth
