Looks like Tennessee is not alone (see here):

BALTIMORE COUNTY, Md

"Maryland's Baltimore County Councilmembers will introduce a bill tomorrow which creates serious safety issues for women," said Dr. Ruth Jacobs, President of Maryland Citizens for a Responsible Government. "The bill allows cross-dressing men into women's bathrooms even if they are sexually attracted to women. Promoted as a 'gender identity anti-discrimination bill,' Human Relations Bill No. 3-12 forces the public to recognize men as women, thereby allowing men access to women's bathrooms. Sponsored by Councilmember Tom Quirk, the new law, if passed, will legally protect cross-dressing behavior." – Christian News Wire

"This takes away from a woman being a woman," said Dr. Ruth Jacobs, infectious disease specialist. "Somebody else is just like you. These people are confused about their gender."

WHAT?? Why was an "infectious disease specialist" interviewed? Are they trying to say we're infectious?? GEEZ!! Was the interview with this woman intentional, or was it just a bad decision to use that interview even after finding out what she is? Wonder how long it will before some ignoramous takes that and runs with it? I can hear some bigoted clown now, "didja heah on th' nooz jus' th' othah night...they said them he-she's are contajus! Uh-huhh...they sho' did. Y'all bettah watch yer boys, now!"

"A lot of supporters dressed in "purple" who favor the bill Tuesday evening. They argue that women will not be assaulted by transgender men who use the women's restroom."

And they're right! They don't realize that there are "transgender men" using their precious havens right now - I'M ONE OF THEM!!

All sarcasm aside however, kudos to those who came out in support...but someone needs to take the time to teach the difference between transgender men and transgender women, whether it's the [cisgender] supporters or the reporter who hasn't done his/her homework.

I wonder how long it will be before it dawns on some of the opposition that their are, for all intents and purposes, men (female-bodied individuals who identify as men) who use the women's rooms because they have to. And some of those men... like women. Despite liking women though, we wanna get in, get it done, and get out. It is not a comfortable place to be when you don't feel a part of the group. And the cis-women have no more to fear from transwomen than they do from transmen.

Sometimes...ya gotta laugh at this stuff to keep from breaking down and crying over knowing there are so many haters in the world that have the power to make your life miserable.

I always quote "We walk among you" ~ Trans America

It wouldn’t be so bad if half their arguments made any sense!

 You have a wicked sense of humour dear Beth. Yep...we do walk among them. And it's sad that there has to be a "them" and "us."

If only they knew.

“In Maryland, lies will not stop passage of laws to protect transgender people”

“In their zeal to oppose this proposed ordinance, a few women went too far, well beyond the truth. Religious political extremist Ruth Jacobs stated: “It opens up the bathroom to men … who may be a pedophile who may use the law to nefarious advantage.”” - Liz Seaton

One has to be an emotionally disturbed fanatic to believe that a lie of that magnitude would not be discovered. Not to mention...I'm sure, after the second or third alleged rape by men in women's clothing hiding out in women's restrooms, such a story would have been sensationalized and might even had made national [uS] news. What, pray tell... could that woman possibly have been thinking when she concocted that story!? Maybe she hadn't taken her medication that day.

And kudos to the fool that forwarded the lie to Gender Rights Maryland. Talk about shooting oneself in the foot!! All of them involved should go down in history as the biggest fools of 2012.

And this is just January...
