A transgender Army veteran has been named to head the newly combined organization advocating for the interests of LGBT service members.

Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN) and OutServe, the association of actively serving LGBT military personnel, on Thursday announced the selection of Allyson Robinson to lead the newly combined organization. Robinson assumes the post as the two organizations are slated to finalize their combination this weekend.

The Trans Woman Who Is Taking on the Military

Sunnivie Brydum, January 25 2013 4:00 AM ET

"Allyson Robinson is a decorated veteran, a wife, a mother, an ordained Baptist minister, and the executive director of the recently combined advocacy organization for LGBT people in uniform, OutServe-Servicemembers Legal Defense Network. The Army veteran was tapped to lead the 6,000-member organization in October, and her appointment is noteworthy not only because she is one of the few women leading a military group but also because she is the first transgender person to lead a national LGBT organization." --advocate.com

Allyson Robinson, the first openly transgender leader of a national LGBT organization, was asked to resign by the group's board Saturday.

BY Trudy Ring | June 23 2013 3:46 PM ET

"Robinson, the first openly transgender leader of a national LGBT rights organization whose focus is not primarily transgender issues, was hired by OutServe-SLDN last October. The reasons given for the board’s action vary widely, “from fundraising and leadership abilities to personality conflicts to anti-transgender bias,” reports BuzzFeed. Some sources said Robinson recently offered to take a pay cut to avoid layoffs at the organization." --advocate.com

Perhaps we will never know the full story, I dunno... and perhaps I should not say this, but I can't help but wonder if the real reason for Robinson being forced out is because the "L" and the "G" of "LGBT" got a little worried that too much attention and focus was being placed on the "T" with Robinson at the helm. Maybe they were beginning to feel like they weren't going to be the "No 1's" that they've always made sure they were.

<shrugs> ... just an opinion...

OutServe-SLDN to Restructure, Josh Seefried to Resign

The man who helped co-found OutServe under a pseudonym before the repeal of DADT will tender his resignation tomorrow.

BY Diane Anderson-Minshall | July 04 2013 11:37 AM ET

"After a week of public chaos and inner turmoil, the LGBT military group OutServe-SLDN will be appointing a new board of directors and Josh Seefried, the board co-chair who was seen as the instigator of the PR crisis, is resigning tomorrow, according to Chris Geidner at Buzzfeed." --advocate.com

________________________________________

Seefried claims that Robinson's forced exit was not due to anti-trans bias as has been alleged, but he doesn't say what was the cause of the up-heaval. I'm sorry, but since he offered nothing else, and a member of the transition team made the statement, "it's time to put aside our differences and get to work," it continues to sound like anti-trans bias was the culprit. But again... just opinion.

What Really Happened When OutServe-SLDN Came Undone

Allyson Robinson’s departure from military rights group Outserve-SLDN was messy, shrouded in speculation, and leaves behind questions about the organization’s future.

BY Sunnivie Brydum | July 30 2013 6:00 AM ET

"The precise reason behind the initial call for Robinson’s dismissal has remained unclear, as both former and current board members are hesitant to go on the record about what really took place inside that June 22 meeting. Some who attended that meeting allege that Robinson had neglected to provide crucial financial information to the board regarding its primary funding source, a line of credit, which was set to expire in the immediate future. Robinson denies that accusation, maintaining that the plan she devised with staff members to turn around the organization’s finances would have worked." --advocate.com

If she was dismissed for a valid reason then why can't we know about it? Why the secrecy? Any time something is left as confidential it opens the doors for all kinds of speculation. If the police or authorities want to find out about something from you or in your possible possession they always say, "If you don't have anything to hide then what is the issue?" So I am also asking, "What are they hiding from us?"
