"The article notes that transgender women are particularly likely to be booked on felony prostitution charges on a second or subsequent prostitution offense under legislation that advocates argued would increase penalties to clients, not sex workers. What's more, in what seems to be a flagrant violation of Chicago anti-discrimination law, police officers arrest transgender women (overwhelmingly women of color) for prostitution, classify them as male and, in a disturbing twist of logic, post their mugshots online as part of an effort to "shame" men for attempting to buy sex." --huffingtonpost.com

A lot of people don't like for it to be said, there are even highly liberal people who don't agree... but law enforcement needs to just give it up, and law-makers need to just legalize prostitution.

As a business, it would be taxed - revenue.

As a business, it would have to be licensed, and therefore regulated - safer.

Personally, I don't see where it's anyone's business if a person wants to sell it, and another wants to buy it.

Society and the economy makes it difficult for single people to live on their own. It makes it even more difficult for women and again for minority groups by paying them less than men. Single parents have added financial responsibilities. Students face higher costs to get an education along with an increase in unemployment. Is it any wonder that prostitution is considered as a way to earn money? The demand is high that is for sure and always has been and always will be. It has also been a dangerous profession because you often have to go somewhere isolated. This also endangers the john, many have been robbed and can't report it. For the sex worker I find it strange that the major abuse is from law enforcement with pimps and johns being secondary fears.

Posting mugshots and incarcerating sex workers and johns can only make life worse for them by breaking up families and making employment even more difficult to obtain. Threat of deportation only enslaves that person further and could have dire consequences when they get back to their former country, but then who cares, they are someone else's issue now? Once a family is broken up then the john will probably have more need of the services of a sex worker. That is if they have any money to spare after paying support payments, I know, that is his own damn fault right so who cares if his life is now destroyed?

The sweeps of the redlight districts basically means that they are arresting sex workers and johns who are from, on the whole, the lower and middle classes. It is visible and that is where the focus is and that is where politicians and law enforcement can say they are doing their jobs to clean up the neighbourhoods. The private brothels and call girls/boys aren't so much a concern, they provide services at higher costs and to those who can afford them and require disgression plus it is not publicly visible. And who are often the clients? Politicians and law enforcement and those who can afford to influence and support them.
