Sadly, one of my transgender friends was a public teacher. She was a well liked music teacher who began transitioning and was forced out of the career she loved, for no other reason than her gender identity.

The times are changing, but not nearly fast enough.

A few years back, a teacher in New Jersey wasn't asked back because she transitioned. What Mr. Cowie is actualy saying that HE can't deal with it. The kids handle different things much better than some adults.

I listened to a radio phone in show and there were a lot of supportive comments from more open minded parents, saying that all that matters is that she is a good teacher!

When parents don't know how to talk to their young children about transgenderism or sexual orientation then they can ask. The internet has made communication so much easier so to me that is just an excuse. As far as the writer of the article in the Daily Mail he obviously had permission by the editor and I wouldn't fire him since he was doing his job. He and the paper should be ignored and Lucy should not have committed suicide over the article if that was her reason. I feel for her because coming out is so difficult to begin with and to do it so publicly so she can remain teaching, even more so. -- Bonnie
