"In the poem, Smith invites listeners into a private conversation between his former female self and the man he has now grown to be. He poignantly discusses feelings of not wanting to live past 11 years old, to which his audience has responded with gratitude and heartbreak."  --advocate.com

You know something - our thoughts are a lot alike, just coming from a different direction.  The issue is we can never separate the what we were, from the who we are.  We can only build or grow on it. I just wish gender did not exist.  I love to wear dresses so why should I have fear when I wish to wear them.  I do crave acceptance but it may be impossible to ask or expect.  The very system that provides order also represses.  Dawn

Was deeply moved by Mitch's powerful poem.  Related to it even though I am a cisgender woman in that in the aging process, I am a very different person, physically and emotionally, than the person I was even ten years ago, and especially compared to my adolescent self.  Mitch is a handsome man, and his eyes remind me of John F. Kennedy.

I also enjoyed Ethan's poem and especially Ethan himself. He sounds like he's taking a very healthy look at himself and I can't help but admire him for that, especially for one so young.

I don't hate my male self either, don't feel like I was born in the "wrong body." Although I have often wished I was born in a female body.
