North Carolina on Wednesday passed a sweeping law overturning gay and transgender protections at the local level and requiring students to use restrooms that correspond to the sex listed on their birth certificates.

The measure was introduced Wednesday morning as part of a hastily called special session, passed both chambers later in the day and was signed by Gov. Pat McCrory (R) that evening...

Indeed. Like others have done in Indiana and elsewhere the North Carolina Republicans have dug themselves a huge hole that, I strongly suspect, they will soon need to struggle out of.

I wonder if events like these will someday be remembered as watershed moments, such as atrocities endured by blacks in the 60s, gays in the 60s and 70s. At some point and I think we are reaching that point, the tide can no longer be held back.

Emma , I grew up in the Confederate Capital, Richmond Virginia . I'm actually related to Jeff Davis . I also used to watch the local KKK rallies at a nearby shopping center right up to 1968 when I was almost drafted .
Richmond was indeed a segregated city . A Negro wouldn't even set foot in certain areas of Richmond after dark and we're talking the 1970's dear . The only reason we gave up Water fountains , restrooms and schools was the 1965 Voting Rights act .

Richmond became a "Landlocked" city by 1959. Blacks were inhabiting the city and White had fled to nearby counties . Richmond then annexed 23 square miles of nearby Chesterfield county . A court fight immediately ensued . This kept a now predominately Black City council in power for several years and in that time , Services , and overall living conditions began to rot .

I watched many of the shenanigans from afar . I was NEUTRAL on the issue as I had lived with Blacks and worked with blacks for years in a county . To me , I saw them as "Folks first " , Black second . Meanwhile , my church wouldn't even seat a Black family . I resigned a short time later as a result and moved west . My point is this . Cities and local governments are going to CONTINUE to marginalize any group they can to make themselves look elite and powerful ! In this case , the SAME Moral majority who took the Republican party hostage in 1978 causing Regan to win never went away ! They found individual legislators who could be bought and paid for thus keeping their jobs safe and showing constituents they represent Truth , Justice and the American way !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why those Sexual deviants will thus become the "New Negro " in America . Yes, we live in the Bigot's plantation and we bow to the Masser !

Now , you want to relive that dark period of the 50's again ? I sure as hell don't . The FIRST thing we need to do is define who Transgender people really an truly are and do a WIDESPREAD Education campaign . Sit in's , demonstrations and Pride parades look great on the 6PM news , but they aren't playing in Peoria . We NEED to become VIGILANT and root out the trouble makers and subversives who have infiltrated our ranks and weed them out . THEN and ONLY THEN MIGHT we be able to effectively Lobby our way inb a Hostile environment filled with BIG Church money and local Decency organizations .

Get out in the NON Transgender world and become Civic activists ! Volunteer in food banks , feeding programs , become a Nursing home volunteer . Yes , expose yourselves as Transpeople ! Show the bigots the GOOD we can do and refuse to crawl back to the closet on the Plantation ...............................

PayPal Holdings Inc (PYPL.O) on Tuesday canceled plans to open a global operations center in Charlotte, North Carolina and invest $3.6 million in the area after the state passed a controversial law targeting lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) citizens.

The digital payment company's protest is the first by a major business after North Carolina became the first state last month to enact a measure requiring people to use bathrooms or locker rooms in schools and other public facilities that match the gender on their birth certificate rather than their gender identity.

APRIL 8, 2016

As you, my fans, know I’m scheduled to play in Greensboro, North Carolina this Sunday. As we also know, North Carolina has just passed HB2, which the media are referring to as the “bathroom” law. HB2 — known officially as the Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act — dictates which bathrooms transgender people are permitted to use. Just as important, the law also attacks the rights of LGBT citizens to sue when their human rights are violated in the workplace. No other group of North Carolinians faces such a burden. To my mind, it’s an attempt by people who cannot stand the progress our country has made in recognizing the human rights of all of our citizens to overturn that progress. Right now, there are many groups, businesses, and individuals in North Carolina working to oppose and overcome these negative developments. Taking all of this into account, I feel that this is a time for me and the band to show solidarity for those freedom fighters. As a result, and with deepest apologies to our dedicated fans in Greensboro, we have canceled our show scheduled for Sunday, April 10th. Some things are more important than a rock show and this fight against prejudice and bigotry — which is happening as I write — is one of them. It is the strongest means I have for raising my voice in opposition to those who continue to push us backwards instead of forwards.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band’s Sunday April 10th show is canceled. Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase.

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- The decision by the North Carolina legislature and Gov. Pat McCrory to overturn Charlotte's anti-discrimination ordinance is the latest muscle-flexing by leaders in Republican-controlled states to rebuff local governments.

A focal point of the Charlotte ordinance was a provision that allowed transgender people to use the restroom that conformed to their gender identities. But the law signed March 23 also bars all cities and counties in the state from passing anti-discrimination ordinances that would protect gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transgender people.

Bruce Springsteen, Thank You Very Much. It Is Great that You are standing up against these pathetic idiot's. The idiot's, are just plainly ignorant. They need to learn that L.G.B.T. People are Human Being's, and Deserve to be treated with respect. I Do know what I Am talking about, because I Myself, Am a Male-to-Female; TransitioningTransitioning; Transsexual. Bruce Springsteen, once again, Thank You. Take Care, With My Very Best Wishes, Stephanie.

Someone sent me a screen capture of Springsteen's fb post last nite.  Looks like NC is on the road to finding out just what Indiana went thru, and what they are still recoving from.   I guess it wasn't enough that they read about Indiana's woes - they had to learn what it's like for themselves....

Yeah, it will happen, NC is going to get its just desserts. And their populace is going to rise up and become an example of love and acceptance. I believe this. Stay tuned.

NBA ISSUES ULTIMATUM -

By abcnews - April 10, 2016
"“With this new law in place, Charlotte currently does not have any anti-discrimination protection in place, something that would be vital for a large event such as the All-Star Game,” Silver told reporters. “We are giving the state of North Carolina 30 days to repeal this law or they can expect the 2017 All-Star game to be held elsewhere. I want to make it clear that the NBA will not stand for this type of intolerance and hate.”" -- abcnews.com.co

Strange bedfellows, so many feels, the enemy of my enemy is my friend?  I have to chuckle over this, this grimace.  The porn community as a lot to answer for regarding the misinformation they perpetuate relating to trans issues, but.... wha?

“I think that porn has the power to do what Bruce Springsteen can’t.”

04/11/2016 03:05 pm ET | Updated 20 hours ago

There’s a new kink in North Carolina’s LGBT controversy: A popular porn website is banning all computers from “The Tar Heel State.”

XHamster.com has been refusing to serve anyone from North Carolina since 12:30 p.m. EDT, Monday.

Instead, users with a North Carolina IP address are just seeing a black screen on their computer — no porn.

The extreme measures will stay in place until North Carolina repeals House Bill 2, a law passed on March 23 that effectively prevents cities and counties in the state from passing rules that protect LGBT rights.

XHamster.com spokesman, Mike Kulich, said the website believes in equality for everyone.

Here's an interesting article that shows how a cisgender woman has learned what its like to be transgender and why this hysteria around bathrooms is so misguided and humiliating:  http://www.huffingtonpost.com/lyndsey-darcangelo/tomboy-in-the-ladies-room_b_9672630.html?utm_hp_ref=transgender

I'm guessing that D'Arcangelo is lesbian.  There are some lesbians who dress and act more male than some men.  I find it baffling that so few seemed to realize that these so-called "bathroom bills" wouldn't affect them.  Her revelation just makes me sit back and ask, "what were you thinking?"  But maybe now that one has come out and admitted how she was treated, and has found it in her to compare it to what some transgender women must endure, maybe others will too... and hopefully with their backing and support, more of these bills will be stopped or repealled.

""It is both frightening and embarrassing that one of our nation’s staunchest allies has warned its citizens to of the risks of traveling to North Carolina and Mississippi because of anti-LGBT laws passed by their elected officials. It is now more clear than ever that these terrible measures are not only harming individuals and taking an economic toll on the states, but are also causing serious damage to nation’s reputation, and the perceived safety of LGBT people who travel here.""  --advocate.com

I'm now 50 miles North of the N Carolina border . I've already seen a few frowns as I have canceled BOTH Charlotte Auto Fair shows this year in addition to a Plastic model show in Winston Salem in July . I have a son and his needs come first . I'm NOT spending this spring , summer and parts of next Fall in the Mecklenburg County jail .
