"The Navajo refer to Two Spirits as Nádleehí (one who is transformed), among the Lakota is Winkté (indicative of a male who has a compulsion to behave as a female), Niizh Manidoowag (two spirit) in Ojibwe, Hemaneh (half man, half woman) in Cheyenne, to name a few."  --

"So too is the fact that Grace did so in protest against North Carolina's so-called bathroom law. Grace said she wanted to voice her opposition to what she considers North Carolina's "ridiculous law," requiring people to use public restrooms which correspond to the sex listed on their birth certificate or run the risk of criminal charges. Grace told reporters she wanted to make a point: Trans people will not live in fear."  --

"“Our community got really small-minded when it decided to breakdown this very inclusionary ordinance to just who is using the restroom next to me and what sex they are,” Ghazi told Comer. “The sole focus became restrooms and locker rooms. This is such a bigger human rights issue than just who’s in the stall next to you. It’s none of your business.”"

  4. Male in In and Out of Darkness

    By JayM, posted
That was my first Christmas as a man. Officially, that is. Unofficially, I've been that way for years
But all the documentation, and the websites, and the bank cards and credit cards that I have in my possession, showing my new, real name, they all tell me that I'm officially a man now. (Notwithstanding the fact that my birth certificate still says "girl" on it, but it'll be a long time before that gets changed, so I'm not counting that).
I've just changed my gender on here, in that little dropdown thingy on the profile page. That's a technical term, for all the non-IT people out there - "dropdown thingy"
I just changed it. From "Transgender" to "Male". Because when I logged in, I looked at my profile and thought, "My gender isn't transgender. That's an adjective to describe me, maybe, but it's not my gender." At best I would choose "Trans male" if it was there, or "Trans man". Or maybe "AFAB". But, hey, I'm male and I'm proud of it. So I changed the dropdown thingy.
I'd like to take this opportunity to wish everyone on here a fabulous 2016 and I hope it brings each and every one of you everything you desire. Personally, I desire the T, but I'm in for a long wait, it seems. Maybe this time next year my voice will be a little deeper and I'll be moaning about having to shave every morning before I go to work, but who knows...?
Hey... and before I forget... if anyone in the UK happens to read this and they are planning a visit to Sparkle 2016, and they feel inclined to have a wee dram or a cup of tea with a Mancunian who is also planning a visit to Sparkle 2016... well, as long as you're not an axe murderer or something...
My thanks go to all you guys and girls who have provided such valuable advice to me this year. Much respect. And hugs. Ok, maybe just one hug. A quick one. Before anyone sees.
Have a Happy New Year. xx
  5. Dear Friends,
There are some excellent researchers that would like to in-depth interview and photograph transgender people over 50, preferably in their homes, but anywhere they feel comfortable.
    Please check out their website:
Thank you in advance to all those who participate!
    Yours truly,

Interestingly, when it comes to Dance Central, allowing players total freedom to choose how they physically express themselves -- including the extent to which they want to gender their movements -- has been a considered and intentional process.” - Leigh Alexander

““Guys wear a dress, girls wear less” may not be the best (albeit informal) slogan for a party with good intentions, even if it has been a pretty accurate description of Genderf#<ks of years past. And while it even has this year’s planning committee cringing, it is clear Genderf#<ks is going to have to change more than its slogan if it’s going to f*** anything this year.” - Maxwell Nesterak

"The preliminary study by Laura Case, Ramachandran’s student, raises the prospect of a new category of transgenderism. “Alternating gender incongruity (AGI),” the neuropsychiatric term the researchers have tentatively proposed, describes the involuntary change of gender identity, along with perceived phantom sex characteristics, a tendency toward ambidexterity and bipolar disorder, all signs that suggest a biological basis for AGI."

Read more on Ramachandran's studies in the thread begun by Shannon in April 2008. The topic sparked quite a bit of discussion.

A city is proposing to ban titles such as Mr, Mrs, Miss and Ms in case they offend the transgender community.

Councillors in Brighton will vote on the proposal to remove the words from official forms and paperwork after complaints that they forced people to ‘choose between genders’.

The proposal is backed by Brighton and Hove City Council deputy leader Phelim MacCafferty, who has called the titles 'useless'.

But the new proposal has been branded 'political correctness gone too far' by an opposition councillor who says the idea is 'ludicrous'..

"Then the Pope goes on at some length to insist that God created a "duality" in gender that is "an essential aspect of what being human is all about." He said people are trying to "decide" their genders, calling transgender people a "manipulation of nature.""

  12. The Social Security Administration announced Friday a policy change long sought by advocates that will protect the privacy of transgender people and make it easier for transgender people to update their gender designation on necessary Social Security documents.
  13. Okay, Finally SSA makes Changes to Policy on Gender marker.

Yup you read that right. It's a new day and the sun just came out, So finally your in for getting this one done then going to the drivers licence office and getting that fixed as well ( because most states wont change gender marker or name unless it has been changed at Social Security first. Congratulations it is Glorious I tell you.

    So Read this from SSA:

Here's the cool section and what that means to you:

"or a medical certification of appropriate clinical treatment for gender transition in the form of an original letter from a licensed physician)."

Now, what this means is your no longer required to have SRS and a letter stating such action has occurred by the preforming Surgeon, Now you simply need a Letter From your Doctor, or Psychologist, both of whom have Degree's stating they are either A, Ph.D or Psy.D both will suffice in the Licensed Physician aspect of the ruling .

Now for the Letters They should look something like these examples:

I,' (physician’s' full' name),' (physician’s' medical' license' or' certificate' number),' (issuing' U.S.'
State/Foreign' Country' of' medical' license/certificate),' (DEA' Registration' number' or'
    (Name'of'patient)'has'had'appropriate'clinical' treatment' for'gender' transition' to the'new'
    I'declare'under'penalty'of'perjury'under'the'laws'of'the'United'States'that'the' forgoing'is'

    _______________ has'been'diagnosed'with'GID'and'meets'the'DSMPIV'criteria'for'Gender'
    __________ is irrevocably committed to'the'sex'change'procedure;'(exact'wording'is'extremely'

    (Name'of'patient)'has'had'appropriate'clinical' treatment' for'gender' transition' to the'new'
    I'declare'under'penalty'of'perjury'under'the'laws'of'the'United'States'that'the' forgoing'is'

The second letter will work as well for petitioning the court for a legal name change/gender change, do them both at the same time and have the same case code on both or you'll end up paying twice for the documents to be processed through the court.

    So recap:

First Get Name Change and gender if allowed in your state, if not that's a matter for later.

Second get Letters from doctors I suggest one of each from Both doctors. the letters are to be originals on the doctors letterhead , get an additional copy if you wish to do your passport because it requires the same letter to make proper changes.

Third get Drivers license done . Using a copy of letters should get this done as well as the courts name change. All have to be original's or certified Copies.

Fourth take your new SS card, Drivers license, and name change to all respective locations that have you under old name and gender. ie: Bank, Utilities, Lease or Mortgage co, Phone, you get it.

So cool I can't stop grinning.

    All the best

"Being misgendered after death "sends a message, really a pretty strong signal to the rest of the community, that your wishes around your gender, your identity, your life as this person, who you are doesn’t matter and can be completely erased once you’re not here to stand up for yourself," Ilona Turner, legal director for the Transgender Law Center, told The California Report."
