"“Every one of us has the right to live our lives as we wish,” he said. “If any one of us wants to dress up as a woman or man and wants to live as woman or man and believes that we might be something other than what we were born, God has made each of us with free will and the ability to choose to do that if man to wants to dress as a woman, and live as a woman, and have a bathroom at home.”"

  3. As I walked home today, I was behind a person who ran into someone he knows and said - quite loud - "men trying to become women, that [bleep] burns me up."  He was ahead of me, so I don't know if it was directed at me (he may have turned and noticed).
Anyway, I didn't confront him (I don't make a habit of confronting random idiots on the street, seems like a wise course), but my thought was "well that's not right, i'm not a man trying to become a woman, i'm a woman no longer trying to be a man."
I channeled it more "productively" on twitter with the following:
Transgender 101: "Transitioning" isn't going from woman to man or man to woman, it's going from fake to authentic. #GirlsLikeUs
If anyone is on twitter i'm ChristieCNY
It was nice taking a negative and going positive in response. I'm so much better as a woman than I ever could have been as a man

  10. Eyewitnesses claim London police officers threw a trans person to the ground, handcuffed her and caused deliberate pain while saying she is 'not normal'

    21 February 2013 | By Dan Littauer
" A trans person was violently handled, abused and arrested by the police, in broad daylight in the heart of London's gay quarter, according to eyewitnesses."

London police accussed of mocking sick trans in 'brutal arrest'

This article [unwitingly] highlights what appears to be classic gay indifference of transpeople on the part of the two gay men who were interviewed - despite their claim of being horrified with what happened. It was well into the interview before they even used any pronouns for the victim (and inconsistently at that)...and then could only say the victim had been subjected to homophobia instead of transphobia. As a part of the LGBT community, they should be familiar with such terms and the difference. But it seems always that is transpeople who seem to be well versed in all aspects of sex and gender, and make an effort to respect others by referring to them properly. -Mike

"FONTANA, Calif. — A transgender woman was found murdered in her Southern California apartment on Tuesday, with evidence of a violent struggle."

Transgender woman who appeared in online reality series found murdered (w/Video)

I realize not every crime against someone from the TGLB community is a hate crime, but if someone was hurt due to hate, then it should be addressed. I find it mind-boggling how it seems that everytime a [trans]person is murdered, the first thing out of authorities (after they mis-gender the victim), is that it was not, or is not believed to be, a "hate crime."

I realize that authorities must and should work with facts, but in this case they have no motive yet (or there was no motive at the time of this article), so if they have no motive, how can they say yet whether this woman's murder was a hate crime or not?

"These incidents of transgender violence barely begin to scratch the surface of not only physical violence against trans people, but the emotional and verbal abuse trans individuals, particularly trans women of color, experience on a daily basis. Vigils for slain transgender women and men have to be organized on an alarmingly regular basis, both locally and abroad."

"The joke sparked negative headlines all over entertainment media and was a huge dud on social media, which called out Foxx as transphobic. Perez Hilton tweeted, "Boo! Shame on you #iHeartAwards for allowing @iamjamiefoxx to be transphobic on national television! Those #BruceJenner jokes were wrong!!!"" --

Jamie Foxx Called Out for Crossing Line on Bruce Jenner Jokes

I didn't seem to hear any "booing" in the video clip of Foxx's poor humour. To the contrary, there was laughter, and you could hear and see some audience members clapping.

In fact, before Foxx dropped the first "joke," just the mention of Jenner's name elicited laughter... as if in anticipation of something to do with Jenners gender identity.
