My Name is Nell, and I have been living with my partner for nearly 30 years. For the first 15 of those years we were married, until I discovered the fact that he in wanted to be a male to female transgender. He hadn't told me this when we married, and as you can imagine it was a terrible shock. We divorced in 1997, after years of trying to figure out what to do about it.

We had so many problems apart from the obvious denial and pain. My parents died and he helped me. I think that is what made it bearable.  Since then we have lived together as partners and friends.

I can't say it hasn't been hard, but we have adapted to a certain degree. There has been pain, infidelity and bullying from the outside community.

When you think people will support you and help you,  the truth hits you cruely in the face.

You are the enemy. You are the freak who is married to a a weirdo. That's how the world see's you.
