I found this to be pretty interesting. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phytoestrogens http://www.dietaryfiberfood.com/phytoestrogen.php Phytoestrogens are chemicals produced by plants that act like estrogens in animal/"+human" cells and bodies. They are often trace substances in food, and can also be found in cannabis. These chemicals mimic and supplement the action of the body's own hormones, estrogen (the British spelling is 'oestrogen'). They are a comparatively recent discovery, and researchers are still exploring the nutritional role of these substances in such diverse metabolic functions as the regulation of cholesterol, and the maintaining of proper bone densit…

Hi girls! I'm a 15 year old transgender from the United States, and I have some questions about the dangers of estrogen. I've been taking spiro for about 8-9 months on and off (I turned 15 a couple of months ago). Like, I'll stop for a week or two because I run out and order more. I'm going to start estrogen in about a week. I don't know how to get medical help. Would a doctor just help me for free? And is 1mg safe?

Err, I guess I was spelling that wrong! (whoops) I found this video (they're not shy with showing the surgery, so, if that makes you queasy, avoid it) on Yahoo about the subject. I was sort of amused looking at the video of the guy who was going in for surgery. I was just like.. wait.. is that the "before"? *Looking down* I thought it was funny too that they mentioned "blood pressure medication". I was just like.. hmm.. yep.. I know what that probably is.. :)

This was a hard weekend. On Friday, my wife and I had a wonderful time while the kids were away -- but the prior nights had included two-hour fights and that night we finally got to the stage where I openly was very clear about moving ahead with everything, unless something drastically changed. It killed me to say it out loud and be 100% committed to it, but there it was. The rest of the weekend has been her asking questions on and off; attending a family event Sunday where she was internally very sad and upset but had to put on a happy face for all the relatives (not very good for her ), and today some crying spells. I feel like we have turned a corner and I ha…

That's right friends, my name is now legally Carla Michelle B*******. Yay! The hearing for my name change was yesterday at 9am. I was up at 5am. lol Nervous much? More excited, really. The hearing lasted all of 10 minutes. All of my paper-work was in the Jude's hands. I swore to tell the truth. He asked how long I'd been a resident (near 6 years) and if I'd ever been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor (nope). There was lots of shuffling of papers and scribbling. I stood there quietly, still as a statue wearing 1 inch heels, nice fitted jeans, a light blue blouse with diagonal stripes of white and (very thin) silver, a water bra (leave *no* doubt), an hour's …

Today was my first day with the gender therapist a F2M medical activist had found for me, only about ten minutes from my workplace. (Which is amazing, here in the middle of cattle country.) She's not a "niche" counselor, she deals with many other patients, but she has actually had a number of transgender clients and even walked with at least one the whole way through transition; so she is probably the most qualified in my neck of the pastures. (She told me today that there are many therapists in our area who would not even touch a TS patient. Which is as expected -- I live in a mini-Bible belt, it's all Bush country around here.) Talking to her, it was very clear to…

While trying to find some before and after pictures for another thread, I came accross this animation.. quite interesting for those of us trying to walk differently... I'm pretty sure I don't walk like the 'very male' even now! http://www.biomotionlab.ca/Demos/BMLwalker.html

When I was little, I wanted to be all kinds of things, but my wife wanted to be Aquaman when she grew up. So I started asking everyone what they wanted to be. Some of the bes responses I got were, "cashregister" and "dinosaur." The best answer I've heard so far is, "happy," but that's not what I was looking for; I'm looking for the fun and silly things then or now that you might like to be. My answer today would be, I wanna be a Pirate. So, what do you want to be? (I hope it's not too off-topic)

It was emotional. I didn't break down and cry uncontrollably, but I went through a few tissues. My fellow patients did as well. They like to call it a "Graduation" when someone leaves after completing the program. I got to wear a tiara. I also got to hear from everyone about what they thought of me, and respond in kind. It was all positive. I'm not sure I've ever received that much praise at once. It felt good. Really good. Apparently I'm an inspiration, supportive, insightful, beautiful, strong, intelligent, and just all around "amazing". In turn I thanked my adoring fans, and reminded them of how far they had come since I'd gotten there. Regardless…

It's easy to find info about all the good things HRT can give you. GirlInside's site (the 'warning' page) got me thinking though... what are all the bad things that can happen? What are the worst case scenarios, and how common are they? I know it's probably dependent on the exact medications, e.g. spironolactone causing problems with potassium and thus you can't drink much orange juice or eat too much banana, and you sometimes get light headed standing up. I've heard things about bone structure damage but I'm not sure what that's caused by either. (Too long on a T-blocker without estrogen?) And while we're here I might as well add FFS and SRS to that. All the guys i…

I had posted a little while back about starting an antiandrogen and what its affects are. Well now I've been on that for a month or so and I am starting to have estrogen added into my dosage. I'm 19 how long before I start to see results like breast growth and fat redistribution?

Hi Ladies, I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.... So I have a question for you.... I will be beginning hormones on Sept. 4...I am 23 years old. I have used Retin-A off and on for the past two years to treat acne and to help keep my skin youthful...It is an amazing product and does wonders for your skin but it can be harsh at times...I have been "off" for 6 months now and wanting to begin back. SO my question to you is: should I begin hormones and give the hormones X number of months to help soften my skin and smooth it out some and THEN begin Retin-A or should I begin back to Retin-A NOW, while the hormones begin taking affect? Which do you believe will…

I just had a thought that I wanted to toss around to get some opinions on. Yesterday I met this young man that was 6 foot 7 inches tall. He wore a size 16 boot. His hands were very big, one of his fingers was the equivalent of two of mine. I just couldn't help but wonder.... If I was that huge would I completely toss out any ideas of myself being transgendered and wanting to be a woman? I tried picturing this very large young man dressed to the hilt as a female. It was kind of a funny thought. I don't think that I would want to be a woman being that huge. I would love to hear some of your opinions on this. You really had to be here to see this guy.

I am 6 ft and at 160 pounds. I was just wondering your folks sizes before you transitioned. Am I just to big to transition if it is what my heart desires. I ask because I do have a thin, muscular build. Thank you so much for your input. Bye Bye ^_^

I've been thinking about something a lot lately with regards to transitioning. I think I'm pretty safe to say that most people want to do it because they feel like they've been living a life of lies and can't stand it anymore, and want to finally be themselves. Whether those lies are physical (my body is all wrong) or psychological (pretending to be someone you're not), whether they're lies to yourself or others, whether they're explicit or lies of omission, there's a lot of lying involved in pre-transitioned TS people. That sounds sort of accusatory.. sorry, I don't meant it that way.. just restating what I've heard many people say. That it's such a relief for them to…

For those of you not familiar, that's a "Partial Hospitalisation Program". In practical terms, it's a 7 hour per day, five day per week, program of intensive therapy. This should last for 2 weeks. There might be an additional 2 weeks of half days also - "Intensive Outpatient" in the hospital's terminology. The reason I'm there is because my depression is bad enough that I can barely get out of bed in the morning, eat, or bathe. Suffice it to say that seeing my psychologist once every two weeks, and taking my meds, wasn't enough by itself. Things just kept getting worse and worse. This is good though. It provides structure that I desperately need, and active th…

Hi, I had a question about transgenderism. I'm a 24 gender questioning youth MTF and had a couple of questions. First, i was wondering if can do male oriented things like hunting, shooting guns, etc and feel female inside. I never crossdress before and don't really know if i could pass a woman due to big size 12 mens shoe, short hair, and a 38 mens waist.. However, when i walked by the womens clothes they look sexy and attractive . I wish can grow breasts and wear a bra. This started in my teenage years when i saw girls developing and then i wanted those chariacteristics like breast, long hair, etc. I have no real indications in the past like wanting to fix my hai…

Hi everyone, I'm a 24 yr old gender questioning young adult from Michigan. Is 24 to late to start hrt for decent results like breast development. I consider myself a late boomer in development because my male characteristics are just kicking in. I have a slight beard, slight male browline that sticks out a little bit, and reduce body hair for my age. My inner feelings feel strongly female. However, i never really dress before except for wearing a bra which was awkward but great. It was like a release. The reason why i never really dress before because i afraid of being caught. Also, i never was really into girlie things because i like to go hunting and go to heavy…

I just ordered a pair of cheap breastforms. I was wondering if anyone knew anything reliable about adhesives and breast forms. Anny recommendations? Will it damage them? How easy is it to remove or am I screwed as soon as I try? I was thinking spirit gum might work, but that might be overkill. Theres some stuff called for stockings, I dont know if that would work or how well. Theres a bunch of different tape type adhesives for wigs and such. Can anyone here tell me how to stick it?

Does anyone have much experience or advice on how to help older children of those who proceed with transition, in terms of providing them with a positive role model of the gender no longer "represented" in the family? Some of us might see the parents' genders are irrelevant; and yes, I do think a best outcome is two parents who love and can show love effectively to their children, regardless of gender. Still, children are developing and looking for role models of both genders. A traditional family provides one female adult role model and one male adult role model. Regardless of my issues, my children still view me (currently, not knowing of my situation) as the male…

I was just curious, I was just prescribed a low dose of antiandrogen, and I was just curious what to expect from it and any changes that I can expect from it.

Has anyone tried waxing their beard area, or is this as stupid an idea as I think it might be? Or both? It sounds painful at any rate... although its still oddly tempting...

I'm currently 20 years old and had been thinking about my existence in the world. I truly think i was not born a boy but a girl. So therefore, i have a few questions i need to ask before i can start going throught the transformation process I heard about taking anti-androgens before taking estrogens/progesterone. is that a must and can someone explain to me why it is so? My figure had always been very girly, i am only 5'3 and my build is very tiny and not a bit muscular. Many times i had mistakened as a tomboy when i go out with a little bit of makeup on my face. is that a good thing? Also, what sort of process should i take in order to fully transform into a girl? i …

I have been so very interested in reading posts by some of you who have made the shift years in the past, to see how you deal with passing or not passing. What I see in your comments is that the issue seems to be more of a concern near the beginning, but as you fit more firmly in the female role and as you become more comfortable with yourself, it begins to lessen... and eventually as you act confidently in your female role you stop caring (to some degree) about whether you are read. I admit right now that I have some concerns about the passing, and one thing that always bothered me was the thought of NOT passing well... and was it worth transitioning if I could not be…

I really want to start on estrogen, but I don't know what to expect. A little bit of background....... About five yeas ago I came to the conclusion that I was an intersex person. Although I'd known for years that I had Klinefelters Syndrome, I had no idea what that meant. Because there was very little information on it when I was dx'ed I had ignored it, hoping it would go away. But five years ago, I was told that I had to go on testosterone to treat some conditions brought on by the existence of Klinefelter's. My testosterone level at that time was very low. I had also been tested for estriadol and it was low too. At that time I was over 50, had always thought …
