I was with my mother the other night, and we usually end up on some topics that I wouldn't expect, but it just so happened that night we ended up on just the topic I needed to get my foot in the door. I casually began inquiring whether she would be upset, or okay with the fact that I would eventually like to start hormone therapy. I didn't relate it directly to transitioning, but she did ask whether or not it meant relenting my birth name. I requested that once I started therapy, she begin calling me by my chosen name (not that far derived from my birth-name). She seemed as if she might find it difficult to do so, but it was a good start. She also knows that I would …

Hi, I decided to write and post this in the forums because I felt it was something I’d like to share. As most of you may know, I’ve been doing what I can as a Moderator and as a News Editor for our wonderful community here at TGGuide. I'll be away for a couple weeks and I’m sharing because this is another of such things we in the TG community must face ... It’s been an emotional couple days for me and my family ... well ever since my Grandma (Nan we call our Grandmothers where I’m from) had a stroke a week and a half ago ... she passed away yesterday. I’m flying out tomorrow for two weeks, to also help my Mom out with whatever she needs, cooking, cleaning all the da…

A little shocked to see one of those KY sensation stuff commercials last evening featuring a gay female couple. I realize this isnt tg related, but i was still shocked. I also thought how cool that we've come this far that a sexual aid featuring a gay couple made it on mainstream tv. Nothing gay related on tv when i was younger. But, i did not appreciate ky commercials featuring anyone obviously using it for sex, being on at 6pm on regular tv. C'mon really ? Sitting with my 11 year old neice watching history channel? Did not appreciate that.

I attend an accepting church. My wife and I have become members as of yesterday. There were at least 3 gay couples and 5 or 6 lesbian couples. As far as I know I'm the only transgender person there. My wife and I feel comfortable and have made some friends. I may speak with the pastor about my being transgender. I can honestly say that I feel comfortable about doing this. I'm also sensitive to my wife's feelings. She accepting of my dressing up to a point. Recently, for the first time, she walked beside me on the street while I was dressed. As you can small advances have made. I would make my day when I attend service dressed up.

  12. Hey everyone As someone who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, I wonder if it is common among transgender or people who don't prescribe to the gender binary to have some kind of mental illness. Do any of you have bipolar as well (or something similar)? I suppose my biggest fear is that being bipolar will affect my treatment and diagnosis as a transgendered individual. Transitioning is crucial for me. I was doing a bit of research, and I can understand how the issues we deal with can cause a manic break, therefore making a mentally ill individual even more so. Mental illness definitely runs in my family, so I think being FTM and dealing with the emotional issu…

D.O. Cauldwell, M.D. “documented the range, intensity, and terrific flexibility of the American libido at least as well as Alfred Kinsey, but without leaving a comparable trace in the historical record – although he is now recognized as the first person writing in the English language to use the expression “transsexual” which appeared in one of his Sexology articles in 1949. (The neologism already existed in German medical literature, and it is possible he picked it up.) The pamphlets on transsexuality are now among the rarest items by Cauldwell. In 2001, the peer-reviewed International Journal of Transgenderism devoted a special issue to Cauldwell, reprinting some of his…

A few things were, in my opinion, better, like the quality of vacuous pop music. I'll take Lipps Inc. over Justin Bieber any day, even if he does come with k.d. lang's stamp of approval. The ratio between pay and productivity was better, though the government of the day was doing what it could about that small equity. And we had a much cooler prime minister here in Canada. And some things were, obviously, worse, the most glaring ones to me being the Internet and tolerance. Not only did people tend to have far less understanding, decency, and…

I'm also tired of the portrayal some of the media has of us too. It was decided to have a Panel dicussion and to have a question and answer session on being Transgnder . Also , I'm to find out what prospective Tennants might wish to have avalible to them in a semi assisted living enviorment . This is a sincere question being asked by t…

I know the ad revenue helps keep this site functioning and looking awesome so i'm not saying i have a problem with that. I'm curious what recommendations members have for transgender dating sites? Also anyone have any comments and stories involving dating sites, good or bad? thanks everyone!

I have a background in Genetics. When someone presents as TG at a Gender Identity clinic a blood sample is sent to the nearest Genetics lab to do a karyotype. As far as I am aware our lab has never diagnosed an intersex person through this referral route. Most are picked up by endocrinologists, paediatricians and fertility clinics. Intersex conditions are not very common. Yet reading through the various boards it appears a number of TG contributors legitimise their being transgendered by applying the term intersex to describe themselves. But they offer no evidence this was ever clinically diagnosed. It worries me. It does a disservice to those genuinely suffering from…

  22. Started by StripyMoggie,

I had an interesting chat today with someone from Personnel regarding me coming to work dressed according to my inner perspective. It appears that TS are very easy to manage in the sense that one day they appear as one gender, the next day in their new gender role. Changes such as name changes, new ID badges, and so on, can be easily implemented. A TG defies that easy rule, because every day could be different. I never feel very masculine or manly, and when I pretend to be manly (grr, beats chest) it's very comical. It is also insightful, in that being manly doesn't come easily to me. I really have to work at it. I digress. I can be somewhat more masculine one day, more…

I am a bit dumbfounded by it all. I mean the labels we use to describe ourselves: TS, TV, TG, CD, trans, genderqueer, etc. The nice young doctor asked me what I described myself as. Would I call myself a transvestite? No, I said, I am seeking a referral to an expert to find out what I am. If you need a description, transgender will do, I said. And that is why I post in this section of these boards, rather than in the cross-dresser section, or the transsexual section. Whilst I recognise the cross-dresser and the transsexual in me, I don't feel I am wholly one or the other.
