Diane Anderson-Minshall, August 02 2012 5:00 AM ET "Although 20th-century scholars have labeled Lobdell a lesbian, the author, while incorporating queer theory and Lobdell’s own writings, makes a fascinating argument in A Strange Sort of Being: The Transgender Life of Lucy Ann/Joseph Israel Lobdell, 1829-1912 that there never was a “female hunter” but really a transgender man who would eventually be locked away from society and his beloved for insisting on being a man." -advocate.com The Real Story of the Female Hunter of Delaware County __________________________________________________________________ There is mention in this piece that feminists declared J…

Okay, So i have a whole bunch of questions that I'd just love to be answered in some way. Is 21 a logical age for me to decide wether or not im ready to start fully transitioning? How in the world will I go about finding a name? Like, I asked my dad what he would have named me and everyone calls me "Vic" right now, but he hasn't told me what he wouldve named me if i was born a male. How do I go about egttinga binder for a large chest? I got 2 binders from underworks and both of them within like 2 months wore down on me! I'm a DD chest and honestlyr ight now im trying my hardest to present as male and it just doesn't work when I have such a large, annoying chest. I have…

Hi... I'm Devin... I'm 21 and I am most recently starting to come out as transgender (ftm) I never imagined how hard this was going to be to just be myself. My mom still has no clue and I feel bad for not telling her because she still uses the female pronouns and I get so aggravated but its my own fault because I refuse to tell her. My girlfriend although we haven't been together very long is so supportive of me.. The only thing I'm afraid of is what if when I start my T shots and have my first surgery she's no longer supportive... What if she's only with me because the fact I'm still physically a girl?! I mean I don't have a huge support group where I'm from. And there a…

Yesterday I decided I was going to send an e-mail to my Great-Aunt, Grandma, Step-Grandma, and Grandpa. I have gotten two responses so far. Both were surprisingly kind and accepting. They are as follows: Great-Aunt: Hi there: I was sitting - drinking tea - and had stayed home today to rest and make some jewelry. I'm not surprised by your email, and very much appreciate the clarification on these many issues. I only had limited knowledge and/or understanding of some things you'd been dealing with around all of this. (And, without a second's hesitation I love you!!! - regardless of this or anything) I guess I got in on the generation that first started to exp…

in the FTM Contacts, a thread was begun by a lesbian looking to meet FTMs for freindship and "possible more." [sic] this naturally morphed into a debate that branched into several directions...sorta like a bramble bush - all over the place... LOL. but i digress. this "contact" thread had been dormant for quite sometime when a rather intriguing statement was made. well...intriguing to me. might be to others...dunno. so i brought the statement here to the discussion area to see what comes of it. read on ....

JR Tungol, Posted: 10/02/2012 9:18 am EDT "Kye Allums made news when he came out as the first transgender man to play on a NCAA Division 1 women's basketball team in November 2010. At the time, Allums was a George Washington University junior majoring in interior design. When he disclosed his gender identity to his teammates and coach, he was greeted with open arms." -huffingtonpost.com LGBT History Month Icon Of The Day: Kye Allums (w/Video) Notice, despite the respectful handling of the story in the news video while in the presence of Allums, the reporter ended his news piece at the anchor desk by referring to him as "she." Lewis Hancox won hearts and minds when he appeared on British TV documentary My Transsexual Summer, now he’s building the life he’s always wanted 16 January 2013 | By Lewis Hancox " It’s been over a year now since My Transsexual Summer was broadcast on Channel 4 in Britain. It’s insane how time flies! Since then I’ve been part of a club tour around the UK with the rest of the cast, along with attending some quite prestigious events. Back when we were filming in the summer of 2011, I honestly never imagined how much this show was about to impact my life." --gaystarnews.com Lewis: Life since My Trans Summer

Hey guys, I live in Southern Utah and there aren't many resources available for the small trans community. I am wondering if anyone knows of website catalogs and other internet resources about ftm equipment and where I can purchase it. I'm interested in packys, strappers, etc, good quality and selection. I am eager to start my transition, but can't get the ball rolling till I have more resources and support. I'm down for some heart to heart and hearing about experiences as well. Thanks guys

Salutations! So far I am all round female, but wish to cross that line and live half the time as a male without T or surgery. I've been looking around the usually helpful internet for the past week and finding very little. There's no one I know personally going from female to male (it seems a large quantity of persons are going the other way round) and I'm frustrated. So here is my plea. First off, I'm small. As in short and skinny, and just generally little. There's hardly any muscle in my arms (this I plan to change) And my face isn't exactly girly, but it's not straight out manly either. My hair is blond and shorter with longer bangs at the front. Also, I lik…

the reigning miss america is from the town i live in. of course everyone in the state, and especially this two-bit, wild west wannabe city, is beside themselves over their own home-grown redneckess being queen of the country. i've never been so tired of a topic for the evening news in my life. i'm also tired of hearing, "every little girl's dream!" i didn't freakin dream of being miss america, miss universe, miss whatever state... MISS ANYTHING!! i didn't even dream of being a mrs...and i'm sorry i used that path to try to convince myself that all this would go away! meanwhile, quiznos has come up with a commercial that has also chapped my rear like an over-due …

16 February 2013 | By James Withers " When he walked into his first class, most of the students had seen four previous teachers. And the school year was barely two months old. The girls 'were starting to figure out how the world worked, for better or worse, and most of them had some idea what they wanted to be when they grew up.' The boys? Well, who doesn't know how loopy young men can be?" --gaystarnews.com A trans man chronicles his first year as a teacher

I liked this article a lot and consider it good for all to read, both MTF and FTM, so I wasn't sure where best to post it. But heck, it's directed toward FTM people so this forum seems correct. I hope you agree and most of all, hope you find it informative: https://medium.com/matter/masculinity-means-7c11e2d976b4 Emma

By Lilly O'donnell courtesy of VICE PUBLISHED: 14:33 EST, 23 October 2012 | UPDATED: 04:38 EST, 24 October 2012 On the roof deck of their Williamsburg apartment, discussing which herbs and vegetables to plant this year, and which of last year’s plants might be salvageable, Sadie sits cross-legged and sips a beer while Marco cleans and lights the grill. Sadie, wearing a short, fitted dress, asks, 'Honey, do we have enough coal?' in that singsong voice girlfriends sometimes use to cloak skepticism as supportiveness. 'I’ll figure it out,' Marco answers, speaking more to the small fire he is tending than to Sadie. -dailymail.co.uk 'Men get treated like s***....

Yes, all of a sudden! Just this April she was Daddy’s little girl. End of this April she wants her hair dyed black. No problem. Letting her express herself. Then she starts wearing dark clothes and now she’s EMO. She wants to wear some of her brother’s clothes too. A little history…My daughter is easily influenced and I can name several changes she made in the past when hearing someone liked or didn’t like something, and she immediately changed to be like what that person preferred. She’s stubborn and a drama queen, always seems to over react to many things. My wife and I checked her computer recently and come to find out she’s been spending a lot of time on YouT…

On 11/8/2011 I officially had my name changed from my birth name to Alexander along with a totally different middle and lastname. I cant believe how simple and easy that was. I didnt even have a real reason prepared. When the judge asked, I just stated that I didnt like the name i had, and he granted my request. Thats so awesome.

I spoke to my biological father recently (after not talking to him for 8 years or so), as a favor to my sister. Well, in short, it didnt go well. It was like I didnt even know the man on the other end of the line. Then to top it all off, he kept saying he knew me. That he wanted to help me. I gave him the benefit of the doubt as i had growing up (to his reasons why he was never around), anyway, he went on trying to explain to me whats really wrong with me. As it turns out, even after both my sister and I explained Transgender to him, he has it in his mind that I have a multiple personality. He thinks that my new name (Alex) is my male personality, and that my female name …

HI! I'm pretty new here. I have so many questions...But I figured Id start with something lighthearted and different. For those of you who have changed their names, where there any nicknames that you kept after changing? Any that you didn't want to give up? My family calls me "em" (shortened form of my birth name) and I really like it; but I know its not the alternative to changing my name. What did you guys do? find new nicknames? or keep them?
