~ GENDER IDENTITY DISORDER ~ Gender Identity Disorder is a recognized medical condition by the American Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association. It is considered a birth defect, which occurs about five weeks after conception. The brain does not match the physical sex of the body. This is also known as Transsexualism. There are males with female brains and females with male brains. The true incidence is unknown but is estimated to be one in one hundred thousand births. The reason for it is unknown but it is thought to be a biochemical mistake in the formation of the brain. The result is that the individual has the ps…

Where do I begin... Until about a month ago I didn't even know what a transexual was. I grew up thinking I was crazy, everyone told me I was stupid for even suggesting that I was born the wrong gender and kept trying to "talk me out of it". But deep down I knew they were wrong. My whole life I knew I was different, and I knew exactly why. A female born with a mans body. I thought I was either unique or crazy. Boy was I off. I've been perpetually depressed my whole life. Constantly seeking a way out of existance. I can't kill myself because of that innate fear of the afterlife. I don't want to live like this, but I don't want to live forever like this either, heaven or …

Someone sent me the links to a few TG-related LiveJournal communities. I tried one, gave a brief introduction, said who I am, and wrote the URL to my site instead of writing the long story. Well, to make a long story short, a lot of people really didn't like what my site says. (Though, to be fair, some people liked it, and some gave me more up-to-date info, which I added, and a few even recommended other groups for me.) I tried others--similar results. Some actually said that my ideas are dangerous! I wanted to say (but didn't have the guts), "Um, you do know that the Cold War is over, right?" So, I just wanted to say that I've found this board to be the most f…

Yesturday at the end of my therapy session, my therapist mentioned that he thought I was "Gender Conservative" or somthing like that, i don't remember the exact way he put it. he said he mentioned it at the end because he wanted me to think about it before our next session, but I have no idea what he means by it. does anyone have any ideas?

Hello all, I know that a lot of you probably don't know me. I had originally joined last summer, and was slowly coming out of my shell, but earlier this year I withdrew into myself again... I stopped visiting, and ended up staying away for many months. I finally started visiting again a couple of weeks ago, and have begun starting to come out of the shell again. It's not easy for me; even something as simple as commenting on a blog post or something takes a force of will. But I have been working at opening up. Now I am actually going to attempt to post something about myself. The last time I had been around, I believe I was working through how to come out to my…

Please excuse me if this is not the correct board, but I am not sure where it would fit. Hi there, My name is Tansy Bradshaw, I am a late-20s Australian writer who would love some assistance from you and the wider trans community. I am writing a book based on the life of Edward DeLacy Evans a trans man who lived in Australia between 1856 and 1901. During this time he was married to 3 women before he had a 'mental breakdown' and was revealed at Kew Asylum. I am writing the story as so the reader thinks it's a man until the incident at Kew Asylum. However, I know that I am ignorant when it comes to how a trans person feels, and as I want to write as authentically as I c…

Dear Friends, After I returned from a Gender Conference, I learned that a transwoman, who I don't personally know, but who is a dear friend of a friend of mine had GCS only a day after the Conference ended. The very next day, she had facial feminization surgery. During the facial feminization surgery, she aspirated vomit into her lungs, and went into a deep coma with a very poor prognosis, and then passed away a few days later. The doctor in question, was a speaker at the Conference, two of whose talks I attended, and he offered "free" mini-consults during the Conference, and I was told he offered discounts to those who agreed to surgery during the Conference. …

I was thinking about how we're all seen as really strange because our gender identities don't match our biological sexes. But when you think about it, we're not all that strange, because we still have gender identities. Gender is a two-party system in our culture, just like the American political system is a two-party system. Just as voting Republican or Democrat isn't all that radical an act, regardless of former party affiliations, being male or female, regardless of physical appearance, isn't all that strange. In other words, I'm not a weirdo, I'm just a girl who happens to have a male body. There are people who don't have a gender identity at all, or are a blen…

Thank those who had some helpful tips on my hair. Of course this is a very minor detail in respect to everything else going on. A big thing for me was finding the right therapist. The third time was the charm for me. I learned how little most of them really know about transgender issues. I had been in therapy for depression for a year until I finally came out to my therapist. He was a nice enough man but he could not help to deal with this at all. I started to have some very deep depressive times. I also have a psychiatrist that did my medications for me. I went back to him, thinking I needed some different meds. He, very wisely said that I did not need different me…

Regardless of your physical outside, are you a woman? This question was posted by Valerie in another thread. I did not wish to get off topic there so I would like to comment on this statement here. I apologize for writing so much, my mind never seems to shut down, I guess there are medications that could help me think of nothing but then I wouldn't really be Amie then would I. This statement struck me because of how it was worded. The majority of people in this world would say that it is your physical outside that makes you a man or a woman. In other words there are still people in this world that believe there is no real difference in brains of men and wom…

Hi everyone. Just found this site the other day. I'm mtf, began my transition 12/09 and things are finally starting to show. Just took the big step yesterday of telling HR at work. Not quite ready to have them go out and tell everyone just yet, but the times getting close. Anyways, I would love to meet other girls around the NYC area who would like to chat, maybe get together sometime etc. I'm a great listener and fairly bright (so i tell myself.)

I know its been around a while but I'd never seen it until now. I was SO angry. If you aren't sure the commercial, here it is. http://youtu.be/C9LTRbWsGOI Just WHAT THE **** were they trying to prove with this commercial? What does a girl "dressing in camo and hoodies" and "building a car garage out of blocks" have to do with how well your washing machine cleans stains, so that you can put your little girl in "the pink clothes"??? I'm just... very pleased to see the vast majority of dislikes on this video on YouTube. I'm glad most people can see how "binary enforcing" this really is. So just a note... after talking about this with everyone I noticed that i…

Self- acceptance is the first step toward self discovery. It is declaring that I accept who I am regardless of what others say or think. The fog clears away and opportunities to express my gender variance without shame or fear. When I accepted that I was a cross dresser, the tension and stress of several weeks of denial dissipated. in due time contentment followed. I felt comfortable in my own skin. I was free to explore and grow as a transgender woman. No one can live our lives for us. Seeking to improve ourselves does not compromise us as individuals, parents, or neighbors. I sometimes cringe when I hear that some one is called selfish because they desire t…

How do you handle those awkward family moments? Saturday I was at my brother's house visiting. I see them once every few months. I live as female part time so currently I work as a boy, see family as a boy, but otherwise I am Britney. I went to a party Friday night and then was at my brothers on Saturday afternoon. He was making fun of me cause I don't know anything about football or what a waiver wire was. Saying thing about the "man card" and ect. He has seen some of my kink photoshoots but from years ago when I shot as a boy so my family already thinks I am weird. As I was leaving his house his wife happened to point out that I was still wearing mascara from the ni…

As for expression: & Off course the problem here is that he is looking at expression alone: Off course I wish to debunk his claim of sex being formed around what gametes are produced. Any ideas?

Hello everyone - I'm new here. I'm looking for the member named "nellenelle" because I've seen her posts regarding visiting the Transgender Clinic at Dartmouth in New Hampshire. I live in New Hampshire and am in the process of seeking out competent gender specialists: therapists; endocrinologists; surgeons, etc. Nellenelle, if you're still here, I'd really appreciate hearing your thoughts about Dartmouth's program. Also, are there other NH specialists you've heard good things about? I hope you receive this. If not, does any one else have any experience finding specialists in NH? Thanks! - LEN

I got this book called "Now That You Know- What Every Parent Should Know About Homosexuality" and it's really interesting. I recommend it if you need more information. It has a section on gays and religion, and reading that gave me a lot of hope. And another book is "The Transgender Child", which I haven't purchased that one yet, but hopefully soon. It has a lot of information in it, and it's available on iBooks. I love doing research on this kind of stuff, so I can be more educated on transgenders like me, so if you know of any books or websites that have facts, instead of opinions, let me know. I'll hopefully start transitioning when I get into college or out of …

This is just something that came up in a conversation between my partner and I this morning. I thought it rather amusing, so I figured I'd post it. When I was a kid growing up in the late 60s and early 70s my family used to make a five hour drive from our home in Southern California to our vacation destination in Arizona two or three times every summer, and usually once in the winter. The car we usually took was my dad's old El Camino, which had some cushions in the back and a camper shell. That's where I would ride. My dad was a very old-school conservative kinda guy and in an effort to both keep me quiet--and teach me his idea of the finer points of being a man-…

As I have occasionally commented before, I am disappointed with my breast size. The options seem to be using pads or breast enhancers in my bras and/or wearing padded bras or just accepting relatively small breasts and wear unpadded bras. I know many male to female transsexuals have implants, but I have decided not to. Until recently I usually wore unpadded bras since developing some breasts. I realize many genetic women are also disappointed with their breast size and wear pads or padded bras to enhance their feminine appearance. So I have often lately been wearing pads or breast enhancers in my unlined bras. The difference in bust projection is, of course, noti…
