Many may question their gender growing up, but never really give it too much in-depth thought. Others will go along [happily] being themselves "because." And in a lot of cases, that they are not the gender they know themselves to be isn't usually an issue until - PUBERTY. Puberty comes skulking around, doing its dastardly deeds on our bodies, making changes we knew were inevitable but chose to ignore. In some cases, we deceived ourselves into thinking these changes would never happen to us...because after all, we know best who we really are, in spite of what other people may believe. Puberty in itself wreaks havoc on many teens. They become rebellious. Some dabble i…

This may be the finest presentation I've ever seen by the parent of a transgender child. I came across it late last night and found myself brought close to tears and real joy for the family and for Dana, their wonderful son: Proud to call you my transgender son

The Girls Scouts of Colorado have spoken out in support of transgender children. Following the story of a child who was denied enrollment in a local Girl Scout troop despite identifying as a girl, the Girl Scouts of Colorado released a statement saying that the associate responsible for that troop was unaware of the organization's policy. "Girl Scouts is an inclusive organization and we accept all girls in Kindergarten through 12th grade as members"... "If a child identifies as a girl and the child's family presents her as a girl, Girl Scouts of Colorado welcomes her as a Girl Scout." TransYouth Family Advocates has released a thought-provoking video titled "Transgender Children - Out of the Shadows." The video can be viewed at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y1LPs8sE4M0 I wish I could have benefited from such public awareness when I was a child. During my childhood, I was thoroughly traumatized by adult reactions to some of my displays of gender incongruity. The effect of the negative reactions shamed me into 25 years of repression, and all the awful internal fighting and turmoil that naturally accompanies. I would add one more item to their "top ten" list; Never to scold the child or make them feel as if they are doing something wrong when expr…

I think this is so cool. The boy is 4 years old and loves to wear dresses. The parents are okay with it and the mother wrote a children's book about her son to help the other kids and their parents understand it. There is a box of clothes in the class for the kids to play dress up. The mother came to pick up her son after school and he was always wearing dresses from the box. She thought that maybe there wasn't enough boy's stuff in the box so she brought a bunch and put them in the box. Each day she came to pick him up he would be wearing a dress or something feminine. She asked him about it and he said he just really liked wearing them. She talked to her husband…

Parents and schools are seeing increasing numbers of children, some as young as kindergartners, who are challenging the gender into which they were born. By Lornet Turnbull Seattle Times staff reporter Every few weeks, Aidan Key might get a call: a little boy in school is dressing as a girl — in frilly tops or pink skirts. A girl in first-grade will be returning from a holiday break as a boy. Public- and private-school administrators and the parents of these kids want guidance navigating such sensitive terrain; they want to help children become comfortable calling a classmate by a new name, or know how and when to refer to another student as he or she. Ther…

http://ca.shine.yahoo.com/parenting/the-controversial-costume-that-outraged-moms-made-boy-happy-blog-46-shine.html This mother has the right idea. She will be supporting her son no matter what his choices are in the future. I know that identity and orientation are not 'choices' but this Mom will be supportive of her son. The others are representative of society in general at the moment. The replies are good even though they don't mention the possibility of the boy being transgender and that it is just a one day thing. The main point though that they seem to be getting is the support of the mother and not only for this one day but for the rest of the boy's life. …

Ontario, Canada “This is bad, bad stuff. First, there is a great deal of medical research proving these profoundly serious drugs have deleterious effects on the brain and can do untold damage. Second, such treatment is not widely endorsed at all, and there are very few doctors who would advise or prescribe such medication. Third, the whole argument rests on the assumption that young people may be "trapped" in the wrong body, rather than being confused, abused, unhappy kids.” - MICHAEL COREN No sex, please This is a pretty darn good example of a well articulated transphobic individual being allowed to spread a healthy dose of hate in the news ~ Beth

"Regardless of the fact he was physically male, Thomas has always maintained that he is a girl. When teased at school about being quiet and liking dolls, Thomas would repeat his simple response, "I am a girl." Thomas, now 11, goes by the name of Tammy, wears dresses to school and lives as a girl. Her parents have been accused by family, friends and others of being reckless, causing their youngest child permanent damage by allowing her to live as a girl." Bridgette P. LaVictoire on June 13, 2012. "For LGBT youth, the world is full of hostility towards homosexuality and transgenderism. Unlike many others who are the subject of intense bullying, though, there is the other problem that many LGBT youth do not have a safe haven at home." -lezgetreal.com And The Survey Says: LGBT Youth Facing Hostility Everywhere

Wayne Maines, 08.06.2012 1:49pm "One of the first decisions is whether to tell others that our children are transgender. This decision is often dynamic, as the environments change, we have to change, too. Not telling our schools and community is called "Going Stealth." Going stealth often starts as early as preschool. It is a simpler time in many ways. No one need's to know except family, doctors and a small inner circle of friends. Later, in elementary school, we often decide to leave stealth mode to inform teachers, staff and sometimes community leaders that we have a transgender child. It is not an easy decision. Doing so creates new challenges and bigger fears." -hu…
