Where there’s no wondering, ‘Is this teacher going to be a person for me to be myself with?’” said Zsilavetz, who is transgender and a veteran teacher with nearly 25 years of experience. “This is a place where they (students) can just open up and be the best person they can be.”" -- yahoo.com Groundbreaking High School for LGBT Students to Open

Posted: 10/17/2012 1:59 pm Updated: 10/17/2012 2:16 pm An Illinois anti-gay Christian hate group voiced its condemnation of a newly affirmed school policy for transgender-inclusion, claiming the "feckless school board has made a decision to accommodate, not the needs of gender-confused teens, but their disordered desires." The East Aurora school board voted Oct. 15 to approve a policy that addresses the needs and rights of transgender and other non gender-conforming students, with policies such as allowing the student to use the restroom he or she associates with and using the modified name he or she has chosen, The Beacon-News reported. -huffingtonpost.com Il…

last night I went to a trans meeting here in Reno and got to meet the mother of a child who made the news concerning Cee Cee and the bathroom situation at a school. I felt both honored and blessed to get to know this mothers story about her child going through transition and the fact the mother is now dating a transman. I tried to find the post on here, cause i swear i thought there was one on her..but couldnt find it. Cee Cee who is 9yrs old was just the happiest girl, running around the pizza place where we had the meeting at, playing video games. http://www.kolotv.com/home/headlines/Nine-Year-Old-Transgender-Declares-Identity-268764841.html?device=phone

  14. thesun.co.uk, no doubt, has got to be about as insensative, pompous, judgemental and bigotted as FOXNews. Note the overall demeaning tone of the article. The sub-headline, "story that will shock every parent." Quotations around "he" in a few places. Then there's the caption under a picture of Jake and his sister, Olivia, "Sisters... Olivia with her new little "brother."" "Sisters?" Really? The article also starts out as if Jake's parents are villians. Like there is something wrong with them. As if they are doing something wrong. Some people, like the author of this article, Sarah Arnold, shouldn't be allowed to report news. In fact, media such as thesun.c…

  16. Parents and schools are seeing increasing numbers of children, some as young as kindergartners, who are challenging the gender into which they were born. By Lornet Turnbull Seattle Times staff reporter Every few weeks, Aidan Key might get a call: a little boy in school is dressing as a girl — in frilly tops or pink skirts. A girl in first-grade will be returning from a holiday break as a boy. Public- and private-school administrators and the parents of these kids want guidance navigating such sensitive terrain; they want to help children become comfortable calling a classmate by a new name, or know how and when to refer to another student as he or she. Ther…

  19. October 26th, 2012 Growing up gay is not easy, for any generation. Baby boomers and their LGBT elders, for example, lived at a time when information about LGBT issues was almost non-existent and when there were no role models on television or in popular culture. Many of them grew up not knowing another gay person in their school or community … until they moved to the big city and found a welcoming community in bars like the Stonewall Inn in New York City or The Club in San Diego. -sdgln.com LGBT youth who are out are happier, but still face serious obstacles
