~ GENDER IDENTITY DISORDER ~ Gender Identity Disorder is a recognized medical condition by the American Medical Association and the American Psychiatric Association. It is considered a birth defect, which occurs about five weeks after conception. The brain does not match the physical sex of the body. This is also known as Transsexualism. Navigating the social mores of the public restroom when you're not cisgender can be a tricky dance, practiced multiple times a day. BY Riki Wilchins, February 07 2013 5:00 AM ET "Yes, I know there's an app for that, which will enable your iPhone to locate the nearest gender neutral restroom. And if you you live in downtown Seattle or go to school at UC Berkeley, it probably works great. I usually find the nearest one is at least two time zones away." --advocate.com Op-ed: 'It's The Women's Room!' And Other Bathroom Complications

BY Trudy Ring January 18 2013 6:32 PM ET "In the episode, heroine Bo, who investigates crimes among supernatural beings, is in a prison run by Amazons, the mythical tribe of women warriors, GLAAD reports on its blog. The villainous warden appears to be a woman and claims to be an Amazon but turns out to be biologically male, and the revelation leads the prison guards to attack the warden." --advocate.com No Antitrans Bias Intended in 'Lost Girl,' Say Producers ________________________________ I watch "Lost Girl," and I saw this episode. I was sorta surprised when I saw this article, and while I never thought of the episode as being anti-trans, I can certainly u…

there have been many posts about various TG/TS-themed movies...i've seen a few, some okay, some not so okay. some of you may know that i'm not a real big fan of these movies. today...i saw "bicentennial man" for the first time. if you have seen this movie, you're probably scratching your head and saying, that was no TG/TS movie! you are right...it is not a TG/TS-themed movie. but this movie seemed to speak to me more than any such film ever has. robot andrew martin's struggle to first become free, and then to become recognized as human seems so much like my own dreams - first to transition, and then to be recognized as a man. thru his life, no matter how huma…

"Honey guess what? I'm really a Transphobe!" - The Jerry Springer Show & Transphobia You may have seen me posting on Twitter and Facebook about "The Jerry Springer" show, and that I find it extremely Transphobic. In fact I detest it and I know MANY Trans People who it's affected - some who delayed transition because of fears of ridicule and the stigma attached and exacerbated by this show... and others who gave up their goals because of this show. This is for all the girls and guys who made it, and to those who sadly didn't. So - "The Jerry Springer Show". It wouldn't look out of place at a carnival... Jerry could easily stand there as ringmaster, the audience eat…

Darren Wee | 07 July 2015 "‘So, in the Bible, when a man sleeps with another man like with a woman, it’s an abomination. See, the emphasis is on a man betraying his status: He has feminized himself. So it’s a gender violation as opposed to a sexual violation.’" -- gaystarnews.com Jesus was gay or "at the very least' queer, says theologian ______________________________________ So, what's this guy's angle? Crackpot? Preacher with a twisted fantasy? Trying to whip the conservatives into a frenzy even more so than they're already in? Or did this guy just throw trans people under the bus in an attempt to get the hets off gay peoples' backs? Just wonderin' ....

“Your child might be gay. I'm not talking about your neighbor's kid or your cousin's kid, and I'm not even talking about my kid (although they are certainly included). I'm talking about your kid. Your kid might be gay. You may want to protest: "My son doesn't like show tunes. He likes football and Legos." "My daughter doesn't play softball. She loves princess dresses and pink." "My son has a girlfriend." "My daughter has a boyfriend." "My child is too young to think about those things."” - Amelia Open Letter to Parents: Your Kid Might Be Gay I thought this to be a wonderfull letter to share here as it can just as easily be applied to transgende…

Regardless of your physical outside, are you a woman? This question was posted by Valerie in another thread. I did not wish to get off topic there so I would like to comment on this statement here. I apologize for writing so much, my mind never seems to shut down, I guess there are medications that could help me think of nothing but then I wouldn't really be Amie then would I. This statement struck me because of how it was worded. The majority of people in this world would say that it is your physical outside that makes you a man or a woman. In other words there are still people in this world that believe there is no real difference in brains of men and wom…

I was going to search for a previous topic, but apparently all the words are too short So.. my apologies if a thread has already been started on the topic Anyway, has anyone read this book? I heard about it earlier, and finally got a copy today on a separate recommendation from a friend. It's been really interesting reading so far. The full title is: Self-Made Man: One Woman's Year Disguised as a Man, by Norah Vincent

Sharon Shattuck, 15 Jun 2012 "My dad was super (or, "supor," as it were): He cared for me and my sister every day while my mom was at work, keeping us happily occupied while he juggled his own landscaping business. He encouraged us to be assertive and fearless tree climbers and communicators. And he taught us to be open-minded and accepting of others..." -Shattuck, huffingtonpost.com "Supor Dad"

I found I used to write here often when I was ... well I guess you could say I was in turmoil. Not to say I didn’t have anything positive in my life but just that everything was followed with a “Yeah but”. No matter what I did or where I went or how great a time I should have been having it was all followed with “Yeah but”. It was two words that always were in the forefront of my mind and a voice inside screamed it whenever my eyes met a mirror ... it was my voice .. I mean to say it was my currant voice, my female voice. I’m writing now because I try to remind myself that it’s important to pass along how things are a little further down the road, after accepting one’s…

D.O. Cauldwell, M.D. “documented the range, intensity, and terrific flexibility of the American libido at least as well as Alfred Kinsey, but without leaving a comparable trace in the historical record – although he is now recognized as the first person writing in the English language to use the expression “transsexual” which appeared in one of his Sexology articles in 1949. (The neologism already existed in German medical literature, and it is possible he picked it up.) The pamphlets on transsexuality are now among the rarest items by Cauldwell. In 2001, the peer-reviewed International Journal of Transgenderism devoted a special issue to Cauldwell, reprinting some of his…

“I was born in 1983. I don't know of what particular relevance this specific is, except to think back to what things were like then. A few things were, in my opinion, better, like the quality of vacuous pop music. I'll take Lipps Inc. over Justin Bieber any day, even if he does come with k.d. lang's stamp of approval. The ratio between pay and productivity was better, though the government of the day was doing what it could about that small equity. And we had a much cooler prime minister here in Canada. And some things were, obviously, worse, the most glaring ones to me being the Internet and tolerance. Not only did people tend to have far less understanding, decency, and…

“When it comes to identities, we in The Community seem to have enough to spare. Part of the problem is the assumptions that everyone makes. I would like to take some time to discuss something directly that I have mentioned in a variety of different stories- that is the difference between being transgender, transsexual and intersexual.” - Bridgette P. Today we exchanged Yule gifts, and my wife got me something that just... wow. It speaks for itself so I'll just include some pictures. Its title is "Chrysalis" and its subtitle is "Protect and cherish; give wings to fly". I'm not sure what the artist's original intention was (daughter and mother? two women in love?) since it's a "print", but I know what it means for us.

Transgender people: 10 common myths Edited by German Lopez Mar 25, 2016, 12:00p "The most pervasive myth about transgender people — and the one myth that underpins much of the discrimination they face — is that they're somehow confused or actively misleading others by identifying with a gender different from the one assigned to them at birth." -vox.com
