So the last time I was here I had been going through some stuff in my life and my journey to be whole was not going as well as I wanted it to. Needless to say, I have been trimming the fat from my life, starting with the one thing that has been abusing me mentally and verbally and that is my biological family. My mother, my sister and most of that family is not going to be apart of my plans. I have spent years trying so hard to hold it together and keep my family value of being or trying to be close knit. Yeah...didn't work how I wanted it to work. So now they won't be getting nothing from me. No cards, calls and not even a care from my heart. I will turn my heart off for…

Sharon Shattuck, 15 Jun 2012 "My dad was super (or, "supor," as it were): He cared for me and my sister every day while my mom was at work, keeping us happily occupied while he juggled his own landscaping business. He encouraged us to be assertive and fearless tree climbers and communicators. And he taught us to be open-minded and accepting of others..." -Shattuck, huffingtonpost.com "Supor Dad"

Courtney O'Donnell, 09/04/2012 4:51pm "With incorrect, offensive, or downright transphobic phrases like "man in a dress," "male-to-female transsexual," "he calls himself Brandi," or, likely the most offensive of them all, "he-she," mainstream media simply cannot get it right. Sometimes it's deliberate, especially in tabloids and other media that use exploitation to generate revenue. In other instances ignorance prevails in the media by those who ought to know better." Always wise to reveal yourself when dating. Just force yourself to watch a Jerry Springer episode that has transgender guest on and they tell someone they have a penis and watch the fireworks go off. If you do need to tell someone make sure it's in a safe place as their manhood may take a jolt and cause reprisals. This picture may be silly but it can get real.

I wasn’t sure what board was the appropriate one so I put it here. I know staff will move it if it’s in the wrong place. I filled out the volunteer application at The Trevor Project earlier today. I’m hoping to become a chat counselor to help teens and children see that the grass is greener on the other side of the mountain we’re all forced to climb, and it’s worth reaching that summit to see. I’m curious about any advice I can soak up from members here. Anyone who has done this kind of thing in the past (or currently) I’m all ears. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee I will be accepted. But here’s hoping.

I have seen, and heard of, plenty of people for whom that's exactly the opposite. They pass wonderfully in person, and as soon as they open their mouths it all goes out the window. Or on the phone, where they just never pass. There was an FtM in a sandwich shop I frequent, today. I would've never suspected a thing until he opened his mouth and out came a female-pitched voice. I felt sorry for the guy... once I realized what was going on, it was apparent he had done chest bindings and everything, and he looked totally awesome. Just a no go on the voice. I think for anyone who plans on or is contemplating any sort of transitioning or passing, we can't just not worry abou…

On Sunday at church, a young couple discovered that I am transgender. They sat in the same pew as my wife and me. We know the couple. After service she shared with them tha t the woman standing next to her was her husband. They were quite shocked to say the least. Every week at least one person discover that I'm transgender. It's my way of educating the public. Later in the evening, my wife and I were having coffee at a local restaurant. While she was getting our coffee, a woman at the next table was staring at me. I was busy reading my email but sensed that her eyes were searching me trying to figure me out. Later, my wife stated such. It's happened to me before bu…

Although gays have made some progress in society in recent decades, in general TGs haven't done as well. The perception of MtFs in particular is one of us being buffoons. For years, on countless TV shows and in film, we have often been portrayed as laughable clowns. Yes, some recent movies offer a more balanced portrait. Let's hope the trend continues. I believe the only real way to educate people about who we are is by example. The world must see that we are not sex-craven pigs or circus freaks who CHOOSE to transition as some sort of lark. Transsexuality is not an eccentricity, malady or mental disease. TS is however all too often pain, confusion and per…

Major Update: Hello Everyone, I would like update you all on what has been going on in my life. In January of 2009 I first entered this site but was to afraid even to log in. by February of 2010, I had just about given up on life. A nice moderator named Felisha chatted with me for about 3 hours. the next week I started reading the various stories that you have all put out there for us. within 2 weeks I finally accepted my being transgender and decided to get help wherever I could get it. I called a therapist who specializes in transgender issues and she evaluated me for the seriousness of my case. I learned all about electrolysis and did my own electrolysis …

"A gay dissident and a transsexual woman married on Saturday in what was said to be a first for Cuba, then draped themselves in the rainbow flag of gay pride and rode through the streets of Havana... the wedding, held on Fidel Castro's 85th birthday in what the couple had called a "gift" to the former leader, was aimed at advancing homosexual rights in Cuba..." No, I'm not venting! I have had this thought in my head for a couple of weeks. It's good to let all the frustration and tension out of your system. Whether its posting here, writing in a journal, creating a blog,or just screaming in an empty room, getting out all the negative vibes is therapeutic. Once that's done, creative and positive ways to resolve issues can be thought of. I read numerous posts of people who vent. I do understand what they go through. I created a blog when I was dealing with my gender issues in 2005 (still have the blog). I posted everything that was on my heart. One one particular night I posted until three in the morning. I was emotionally drai…

As I've mentioned a few times, I make up for never being able to have a childhood as a girl by collecting "girl toys"--baby dolls, Disney Princess toys, Hello Kitty stuff, that sort of thing--and playing with them. Jennifer Diane Reitz mentions on her site that she used to go out with a FTM who had an extensive collection of Star Wars toys (I think she said he was about 40). Does anyone else here do this? If so, what kind of toys do you collect?

I missed many opportunities early in my life because I thought I was alone. There were people to help me as a child, but fear kept me from telling them the truth. Here is what finally changed my thinking. I reached a point where I recognized that not one human being that has ever walked the earth knew all the answers. Some people would say Jesus knew it all, for those that believe he is God, However outside of that whether you are poor or the richest person on Earth we all face the same unknown answers to some very big questions. After careful thought over many years I finally decided to look more at the facts of my own being rather than always looking at the ab…

Should the LGBT Community Use Words Like 'Faggot' and 'Tranny'? Call Me a 'Faggot' Huffington Post (blog) The terms "faggot," "dyke," and "tranny" are just as important to identifying our queer communities as "gay," "lesbian," and "transgender." It's convenient to just dismiss these words as hate terms. We've been preconditioned to anticipate abusive blows

Hello, I am a married male, with four children. And yes, like so many in this world, I have a hidden secret. As far back as I can remember and thatthats pretty far, I have always felt out of place. I have always felt different from my friends, even my own siblings. I always played with dolls and baby dolls, but living in such an extremely abusive home, I spent a lot of time away from society, locked away in a makeshift prison cell, my bedroom. I spent a lot of time alone, locked away from everyone. I had alot of time to think and daydream. I always pretended that I was a girl. I would always dream about being a female singer, standing on stage a singing my heart out. As I…

So, I lifeguard in the evenings aside fro.from my full time job. Yesterday during a monthly training there were two other guards that kept referring to my in masculine pronouns... I told them politely that I greatly prefer female pronouns and they kept using he and his. BTW, I wear a WOMAN'S SWIMSUIT when working there. Is it too much to ask to not be misgendered in the workplace?

I am a twenty-six year old transsexual male and as long as I can remember it has been an issue I've had to contend with. I sought guidance as a teenager with little to no avail and have tried to manage these emotions on my own but that has become increasingly more difficult as time wanes. I have no resources or advisers on the subject and don't want to do anything rash that might jeopardize my health or sanity. I am uninsured and was wondering if there were organizations or outreach programs that might help me find a professional I could consult with. Baring in mind I have very little income. This isn't a matter my family would embrace let alone accept so there's no h…
