Here it is Friday evening , heck Saturday morning . Count down to Monday 5;30PM eastern as my son and I begin what we think is a History making event in the former Capital of the Confederacy . Yes, we're set to have our portraits done at the Valentine History center , a mere block west of the former Confederate White house in Richmond Virginia . here , my distant Cousin Jeff Davis presided over a rag tag collection of Southern states , 1863-5. This exhibit is beyond just a few photographs of gay and Transgender people who are also family heads . We represent a new era where Gay and Transgender people will slowly take a place in Virginia History . I still have to wonder a…

Often festival that are marketed as promoting tantra and conscious sexuality can have a very heterosexual ethos, talking about 'gender balanced' workshops and even asking people to identify as a 'man' or 'woman' - this festival was inspired by many people feeling they were not accepted into this space and even that they were being told they could not be spiritual, magical or tantric unless they 'sorted themselves out' - well here is the answer .... Coming in August 2014 in the UK An Exciting New Festival Of... San Francisco Pride 2011 My partner and I attended the 41st annual San Francisco pride events this past weekend (6/25 and 6/26/11). I've never seen such huge crowds of people in my life! Estimates seem to vary regarding attendance with 500,000 on the low end to over 1,000,000 on the higher end. I would guess the higher end is perhaps more accurate. There are LGBT Pride parties all over the city including a transgender party and parade that was held on 6/24/11. Throughout the weekend, there are breakout parties all over the city, culminating in the Pride Parade on Sunday. Afterward, there is a huge celebration at the Civic Center. Although the crowds are enormous, the e…

Hello Everyone, My name is Brooke Friley, and I am seeking participants for my doctoral dissertation research. My project is exploring how transgender individuals decide to disclose their transgender identity to medical providers. For this project I am conducting one-hour telephone interviews during which we will discuss how this information is shared. Results from these interviews will be analyzed by transgender individuals in focus groups with the hope of working collaboratively to develop resources that might help transgender individuals navigate these difficult conversations more comfortably. All participant information will be kept confidential, and this study has …

Several weeks ago I was given permission to teach a self-defense class in a local business which is in the working stages for mid September. From the initial response I'm guessing there will be more than one date as I'm teaching this with limited assistance. I can teach people with zero skill with a class size of ten and with a secondary instructor (whom I must teach them my style) I can up class size to say 15. More likely there will be over 30 interested in this class. If you are in the area of Portland/Salem respond here if interested. I will be posting date-time shortly. This will be for anyone in normal physical health. The basics taught are easy to learn using lever…

Dear Friends, Just learned that the Southern Comfort Transgender Conference in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, which meets on the last week of September every year, has been discontinued due to lawsuits against them. The details can be learned by Googling "Southern Comfort Transgender Conference," and reading some of the websites that discuss it. Can't vouch for any of their accuracy. It is a sad loss, but thank God, there are still many transgender conferences out there. Monica

Went to St. Pete Saturday and participated in the Trans March, at the beginning of the Pride parade. I simply can't describe what it felt like to have 300,000 people, cheer and roar, with genuine love, acceptance, and validation. If you can get out and be visible, do so with Pride. If you can't, your vote is as important, See photos from St. Pete Pride’s Sunday street festival (msn.com)
