This may be the finest presentation I've ever seen by the parent of a transgender child. I came across it late last night and found myself brought close to tears and real joy for the family and for Dana, their wonderful son: Proud to call you my transgender son

  2. Started by UsernameOptional,

Many may question their gender growing up, but never really give it too much in-depth thought. Others will go along [happily] being themselves "because." And in a lot of cases, that they are not the gender they know themselves to be isn't usually an issue until - PUBERTY. Puberty comes skulking around, doing its dastardly deeds on our bodies, making changes we knew were inevitable but chose to ignore. In some cases, we deceived ourselves into thinking these changes would never happen to us...because after all, we know best who we really are, in spite of what other people may believe. Puberty in itself wreaks havoc on many teens. They become rebellious. Some dabble i…

  3. The Girls Scouts of Colorado have spoken out in support of transgender children. Following the story of a child who was denied enrollment in a local Girl Scout troop despite identifying as a girl, the Girl Scouts of Colorado released a statement saying that the associate responsible for that troop was unaware of the organization's policy. "Girl Scouts is an inclusive organization and we accept all girls in Kindergarten through 12th grade as members"... "If a child identifies as a girl and the child's family presents her as a girl, Girl Scouts of Colorado welcomes her as a Girl Scout." Just came across this post in Medium. Wow, do I understand. I remember wishing I had a dress at 3 and I can also recall Fallow's shame for his dreams. He's lucky to have his father: https://medium.com/@chdwck/my-son-in-a-dress-is-not-a-political-statement-b5556269ab66

  5. By Mackenzie Maysmmays@fresnobee.com Members of the transgender community have joined the critics of Clovis Unified’s strict dress code, saying it’s discriminatory and harmful to students. The school district’s current policy forbids boys from wearing long hair and earrings and says dresses are for girls. The American Civil Liberties Union has called for a dress code that sets a single standard, regardless of a student’s gender, but the school board rejected those recommendations in January. The ACLU is also pushing the district to drop the use of the word “exotic” to describe makeup and hairstyles, saying it perpetuates otherness and discrimination. More here: http://…

Posted: 10/17/2012 1:59 pm Updated: 10/17/2012 2:16 pm An Illinois anti-gay Christian hate group voiced its condemnation of a newly affirmed school policy for transgender-inclusion, claiming the "feckless school board has made a decision to accommodate, not the needs of gender-confused teens, but their disordered desires." The East Aurora school board voted Oct. 15 to approve a policy that addresses the needs and rights of transgender and other non gender-conforming students, with policies such as allowing the student to use the restroom he or she associates with and using the modified name he or she has chosen, The Beacon-News reported. -huffingtonpost.com Il…

While Giordano believes she and her daughter have been subject to discrimination, North Texas TV station KTEN clarified that such treatment is not currently illegal in Denison, Texas, which lacks a nondiscrimination code akin to neighboring Forth Worth or Houston. 10. For those who are going to have kids, or those who already have had kids since coming out as transgender, how would you name your kids? Would you give them gender typical names, or nongender specific names? Stereotypical Gender Specific - Steve, Lindsay, Johnathan, Julia, etc. Nongender Specific Names - Kelly, Ashley, Aaron/Erin, Jen, Alex, Adrian(ne), etc. None of us know if that child is cis or LGBTQ, until they let us know. Obviously it's known what they were assigned at birth. And on that also, would you use specific pronouns? "This is my son/daughter." Or would you use nongender terms? "This is my child." I don't have children (that I'm aware of) …

  15. Parents and schools are seeing increasing numbers of children, some as young as kindergartners, who are challenging the gender into which they were born. By Lornet Turnbull Seattle Times staff reporter Every few weeks, Aidan Key might get a call: a little boy in school is dressing as a girl — in frilly tops or pink skirts. A girl in first-grade will be returning from a holiday break as a boy. Public- and private-school administrators and the parents of these kids want guidance navigating such sensitive terrain; they want to help children become comfortable calling a classmate by a new name, or know how and when to refer to another student as he or she. Ther…

  21. Hello Dr. Spack, My name is Erica Elizabeth Ravenwood. I have been, among other things, an advocate for transgender children. I myself am transgender and I recognize the immense need, my obligation, to try to save transgender children from living my fate. I ran across a lecture of your's on YouTube. It was posted by a parent's group and was listed after one of my own videos. I was thrilled to find we agree on every point. I would like to share my work with you. I have no degree. No formal schooling. Bullying took that right from me. Still I would be very pleased if you would take a look. Though denied the chance to learn in a classroom setting I have been blessed to stand…
