This is an excellent 1.5 hour video of Dr. Norman Space, Nicole Maines, and her brother Jonas providing their audience with a view into their lives. The video is certainly okay for children but probably more interesting to parents. In the last half hour they add Nicole and Jonas's mother - Kelly - who provides her insights into what she, her husband, and family went through to help Nicole: Becoming Nicole - Dr. Norman P. Posted by Natalie Hope McDonald on 10/9/2012 at 7:30AM GLSEN‘s 2011 National School Climate Survey is an eye opener. It’s the only national study that has examined the experiences of LGBT students in America’s schools for the past decade. And while there’s been a decline in anti-gay language over the years, the survey of thousands of students from all 50 states and the District of Colombia found that the majority of LGBT students are faced with many obstacles in school that can impact both academic performance and personal well being. -blogs.phillymag.com What’s It Really Like Being Openly LGBT at School?

Jan 31, 7:16 AM EST By CLAUDIA LAUER Associated Press DALLAS (AP) -- A New Jersey woman whose son was asked to leave his Boy Scouts troop after leaders found out he is transgender said she has mixed emotions about the organization's decision to allow transgender children who identify as boys to enroll in its boys-only programs. The Boy Scouts of America announced Monday that enrollment in its boys-only programs will now be based on the gender a child or parent lists on his application to become a scout, rather than the gender listed on the child's birth certificate. By Mackenzie Maysmmays@fresnobee.com Members of the transgender community have joined the critics of Clovis Unified’s strict dress code, saying it’s discriminatory and harmful to students. The school district’s current policy forbids boys from wearing long hair and earrings and says dresses are for girls. http://ca.shine.yahoo.com/parenting/the-controversial-costume-that-outraged-moms-made-boy-happy-blog-46-shine.html This mother has the right idea. She will be supporting her son no matter what his choices are in the future. I know that identity and orientation are not 'choices' but this Mom will be supportive of her son. The others are representative of society in general at the moment. The replies are good even though they don't mention the possibility of the boy being transgender and that it is just a one day thing. The main point though that they seem to be getting is the support of the mother and not only for this one day but for the rest of the boy's life. …
