  1. Started by KarenPayne,

At some point in the life of a transgender person their outward appearance is so important, especially at a young age. I wonder for those reading this that are middle age or older, how important is passing in public before and after transitioning and for those who have no plans to transition how important is passing to you? Also would be nice to know how important is it to not just pass but to look great? I would like to hear from male to female and female to male.

  2. Started by Hawkman,

Was just thinking about this today. When I was living as the female bodied person I was born, I lived for many years, in and out of the psych ward for suicide attempts. Always having friends and family that were there. Years ago, I started my transition, knowing that for me, it was a matter of life or death. Today, I write, having transitioned to the point where everyone sees me as a man and all my gender markers have been changed. In the process, I lost the friends and family. I am greatful that I can now live my life as me, but I just have a hard time dealing with all the loss. I am at a place where, if I can find the courage, I can restart my life. A place wher…

I don't know if this is the right place for this. If not I appologize. First of all hey I'm Jesse K. I am on the explore about the question what am I. I think I know it now but for some reasons I'm shy to admit even at this board what I am. (Though this is probably the last place where I have to be shy) Maybe it is because I figured it out today what I am. It is not really hard to take for me. To the contrary I'm happy that this question which bothered me my whole life finally got an answer. It is though uhh yeah strange because I am obviously homosexuall (if it becomes to my inside gender, to my body gender I am hetero). Yes this is confusing but I though …

  4. Hi everybody I'm right at the start of my journey. I saw my doctor a couple of weeks ago and told her that I was transsexual - the first person I've told! She referred me for assessment to a gender identity clinic and when I called her secretary today I was told that it will likely take many months to be seen. Does anyone have any information or experience of the time it takes for an initial assessment to take place from point of referral? I guess I should have anticipated some delay (this is our NHS after all) but it's a bit disappointing to have made a commitment to starting down the road to transition only to find there's going to be a long delay before the next st…

  5. I am getting ready to start HRT. I want to get the facial feminization and breast augmentation done as soon as possible. I know for a few months my nipples will be sore due to my breasts growing. I know I have to be on HRT for a year and living the role for a year in order to have gender reassignment surgery. I would like to get the other surgeries done over the summer... Is that too soon or impossible? Thanks for any help you can provide...

  6. How many transgender people are there? The National Center for Transgender Equality estimates that between 0.25% to 1% of the population is transgender. This estimate is supported by estimates from sex researchers who have attempted to arrive at an estimated number of transgender people. I suspect the number of transgender people is much closer to 1% than it is to .25%. The latter would seem an extremely conservative number to me. The business of trying to estimate how many transgender people there are is challenging at best. Many trans people integrate into mainstream society and will not divulge their past. Others are repressed and do their best to deny the transg…

I came across this article and I thought it was a good read. I thought it explained just that...How to be Human. This is very frustrating and this message needs to get across to the rest of society and the discussion needs to be constant and ongoing, in it's proper terms...Human! Living authentic for almost a year now and choosing be very visible and public, I've posted it on my social media because quite frankly, I'm getting tired of correcting people, and teaching them manners.🤨 Additionally, at the end of the article, there are also links to several procedures which I would have found helpful when I began my transition. https://www.healthline.com/health/…

  13. I'm not sure where in actually terminology I'd fall and I've searched everywhere but nobody has been able to relate, I just feel isolated and I don't know what to do. The only people I've seen feel similarly are trans women and amab nonbinary people and I don't want to seem like a jerk who's just talking over them. I'm afab, but my parents raised me as a boy and I guess now that I've been forced to stop identifying with masculinity I don't feel like anything, but I'm not sure how to go about leading a life when I'm so different from my trans man and nonbinary afab friends who feel afraid because I have "man behavior". I feel like I have to shut up and minimize mysel…

Hi everyone, So I went to a therapist and told them about my feelings and uncertainty about my gender and identity in general about 4 months. Since that time by myself mostly I have decided that I really think I want to transition to female. I have not always felt 100% about this possibility, but I feel quite strong about this right now. My next therapy session is in just over a week. How often should I be seeing a therapist concerning this in order to get this process moving along at a safe, comfortable, but not painful pace? Also, recent weeks of therapy have not felt like I gotten anywhere with my therapist, but my new found confidence in my decision is driving me t…

I think this is one of the toughest things for me at this point. I wish I knew of a local transgender friendly cosmetics person who could come and do my colors. I have gone into Target to see if I could get some makeup, but there is so much selection. Need concealer, foundation, powder, blush, eye shadow, eyelash lengthener, (Blanking out one what you call it), lipstick and such. I have a number of different nail polishes, but rarely put them on as I might have to take them off quickly. Mostly sticking to clear for right now. I have had the wife come home unexpectedly and we are not at that point where she has seen Emma. She only knows about me. I just feel I want to get …

Hi All. I met with my State Representative last Friday, to try to find a way to get my gender marker changed on my driver's license. Even though I have been on hormones since 2003 and have had chest surgery, I live in a state that requires complete surgery to change any markers. She was very supportive and very much a go-getter. As i was meeting with her, we discussed how this state policy is a hardship in employment opportunities. When she found out the steps I have taken to get back into my profession.....she gave me the name of a person to contact and said...tell them i sent you. Now all I need is a huge injection of self-confidence. this is a profession I have …

I was at the Goodwill Outlet Store last night again, and saw .. I'm not sure if they were a CD or a badly not-passing TS, but ... Just like the type of people that people are always mentioning on here as "probably shouldn't transition" -- probably 6'5", very masculine facial features, uhhh moderately functional fashion sense, totally unmasked male voice. The heartening thing is that there were quite a few people at that place last night and I didn't see anyone giving them a second look really. I mean geez... people are always worried about what will happen if someone reads them, but it makes me feel a lot better about trying even if I don't 100% succeed at first. (Sorr…

Hi all, I just had my initial orientation for Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT). I'm very curious about the emotional / mental aspects of it. With a bit of luck I'll be starting HRT in 2 - 3 weeks from now. I'm super excited but also nervous. Can anyone tell me how they felt when they started HRT? Nervous to start it? How did the hormones make you feel? What were the changes you noticed? I was so happy during the informed consent process that I didn't know to laugh or cry. So I did both.

My psychologist and I had a good talk about HRT this week. Now, I am married, and currently I am very much "in the closet", so I had mentioned that I would have to start outing myself before proceeding. However, she indicated that was not necessarily the case, and that people had started HRT without coming out before. Now, please note she wasn't *endorsing* doing it this way, and in fact mentioned that doing it this way was fraught with dangers, but it was technically possible. I'm not sure how this would be viable long-term, since if everything works as you would want, there are going to be changes that you couldn't exactly hide from a spouse. As well, it seems re…
