As many of you know, I have been transitioning for years. So, I write this with joy and also embarrassment, that it took me this many years to get here. As I mentioned in the ftm forum, over my vacation time, I let my beard grow. I came close to shaving it off before going back to work. That fear of what will people say and always trying to just be invisible. Well I kept the beard. And glad I did. I realized that yes, people might talk about me behind my back....So What??? From what I hear they already do. 1 or 2 might say something belittling to my face, So What? That's just 1 or 2 people I do not need in my life. having the courage to finally be me, do what I…

  5. Matthew Breen | July 18 2014 "Nevertheless, two words have been conflated with trans identities, and those words have hijacked much of the discourse. The vitriolic conversations over the use of the words tranny and she-male—who can claim ownership over them and who should heed their power to injure as slurs, who is in-group and who is an outsider—have been caustic and divisive." --advicate.com Editor's Letter: Excising That Word

Hi, I am struggling with my gender identity and currently feeling confused about it. I am also questioning my sexuality identity, and I'm trying to find the right gender identity and the right answers for myself.

  7. Scott De Buitleir, Posted: 10/17/2012 11:42 am An advertisement for a popular cellphone network in Ireland has been heavily criticized as being transphobic and promoting stereotypes of transgender people. The advertisement depicts a young man dancing with a drag artist in order to avail himself of the bar's free Wi-Fi. When he realizes that the cellphone network Meteor offers a free Internet package, the young man stops dancing and leaves the bar, while the drag queen spots another unassuming entrant to the bar. -huffingtonpost.com Cellphone Advertisement Blasted as 'Transphobic' (with Video)

  9. Or do they? Transpeople apparently weren't included in the study. Seems to me this study could potentially discredit anyone who identifies as trans. -dml ___________________________ Diane Anderson-Minshall, August 05 2012 2:27 PM ET "...a new study finds that pupil dilation is an accurate indicator of sexual orientation. When people look at erotic images and become aroused, their pupils open up in an unconscious reaction, which gave researchers a much easier way to to study orientation and arousal without traditionally invasive blood flow to the genital measurements. ""So if a man says he's straight, his eyes are dilating towards women," Savin-Williams told Liv…

I grew up in the 60s and 70s when a polite society didn't talk about transgender topics. I learned the hard way that you just didn't even mention such things in my family. I got past all that and began exploring my gender identity in the 80s and fully transitioned in the early 90s. It still wasn't a very accommodating society but I was lucky enough to be able to live in stealth mode. Transgender people who came before us had a very difficult path for sure. But I have noticed over the past 30 years that society is ever-so-slowly evolving regarding understanding and acceptance of transgender people. Every now and then I see a development and I think, perhaps naively, that …

Not sure if anyone else has dealt with this. I finally, after a very tough week, realized that i have been living my life for everyone else except for me. I always felt i was being selfish if I did'nt, in some way, conform. Take care of everyone but me. After a week from hell, I now know that, I need to be the man I am. And, if others don't like who I am, it's their problem, not mine. I will say, in this past week, dealing with loss, my dad's illness, and more, well I have never come so close to suicide. And i know it is all because i have been stifling who I am to please others. In looking to change my ways, I have been making a list of goals. Goals for my own …

Adrianne and I are planning on taking several trips as my MD is getting worse, before I'm completely unable to travel. One place I want to go is Key West. And it's not for the sun and beach. I want to meet Robert. I've wanted to meet him for a very long time. But since we'll be there for several days, and I don't plan on sleeping at the museum, I was wondering if anyone knew of any transgender friendly places there. Or anything else that would be worth checking out. We're thinking of going this summer. Hopefully. Other places on the list are Chicago, Washington DC, San Diego Zoo, Tijuana Mexico, Bradford PA (Zippo Factory), Wyoming (Bear Tower), Monroe CT (Annabelle)…

A day does go by that I read of another transgender woman killed. Brazil has the most trans murders followed by Mexico then the United States. With the increased visibility and many ordinances for trans people becoming law, the vitriol and violence has been wratcheted up a few notches. The United States is one of the biggest exporters of anti-TGLB hate to places like Africa, Jamaica, and eastern Europe. Here is where we must be vigilant. Two projects of mine is to refute the lies that passing protections for transgender people will affect religious rights. The other is that I will demonstrate that transgender people were front and center at Stonewall and other movemen…

I’ve been here for about a year and a half now. I’ve met so many amazing people, and learned so much in that time. Many things I never would have thought of, much of which was need-to-know. And unlike other sites I’ve been to, it was offered with love and respect. I’ve seen a few conversations that could be considered controversial, but everyone kept it clean and the language appropriate. This site strives for a PG rating, and it has earned it. So I just wanted to thank everyone here for their help on my journey. And if I have helped even one person for 5 seconds, I want to say thank you for having given me that opportunity.

His cruel and hateful policies are going to put me back on the street, and Adrianne back with her parents. We won't be able to survive when he cuts out foodstamps and social security. If it wasn't for foodstamps, we wouldn't be able to eat. I couldn't drive my car anymore, because gas will be too damn expensive. Pardon my language. But we're not just leaving the country, we may be leaving the entire continent. We're thinking about Europe. I'm hoping for Scotland. If that's not possible, then I'm thinking Germany. Scot is the vast majority of my heritage, and German makes up the rest. So that's the reason for them being my preferred choices. Yeah like all white Americans, …

Hi, I decided to write and post this in the forums because I felt it was something I’d like to share. As most of you may know, I’ve been doing what I can as a Moderator and as a News Editor for our wonderful community here at TGGuide. I'll be away for a couple weeks and I’m sharing because this is another of such things we in the TG community must face ... It’s been an emotional couple days for me and my family ... well ever since my Grandma (Nan we call our Grandmothers where I’m from) had a stroke a week and a half ago ... she passed away yesterday. I’m flying out tomorrow for two weeks, to also help my Mom out with whatever she needs, cooking, cleaning all the da…
