Good afternoon - First of all, let me say what a great resource this forum is! Thank you for having me. I am a child, adolescent and adult psychiatrist working in New York and am the clinical director of the NYU Child Study Center Gender and Sexuality Service (NYU CSC Gender and Sexuality Service). At our program, we see kids as young as 3 or 4 all the way up to young adults in their 20's. As a huge part of our work, we feel it is our responsibility as physicians and psychiatrists to dispel the misinformation in the field and the community at large about gender variance. I think that as a field we have made tremendous strides in the last few years, and I'm happy …

  3. At this time I know that this is a prime time for those who are looking to transition and I know this from research and just transitioning. This video I'd say validates this. http://www.ellentv.com/videos/0-jyoekfe6/

Ever since I came across Brynn Tannehill's "I Am Real" speech to the 2014 TransPride Pittsburgh National Conference I've been a huge supporter of her and greatly appreciate her articles. Here's a new one recently published on Huff Post: Seven Facts About Gender You Should Know

Surfing the web and looking at TG webpages, sometimes I've come across the idea of the "T-dar", that transfolk can be spotted (by some people). What got me interested in this is that back in high school I was often called fag, queer, or homo and got into a couple of physical fights because of it (no suprises there!) and while that happened to a couple of other kids, there was one insult that I only ever heard used on me: "dude, you're not male, I reckon you're a girl or something!" I tried hard to pass (the short hair! ) but even then the smallest thing (how I was sitting, my hand movements, giving an opinion in class and realizing that the girls agreed with me and…

Hey Lucky and All. There is a foundation in Conn., called the Jim Collins Foundation. They are a 501c3 non-profit whose goal is to help trans folk pay for surgery. They do numerous fund raisers. Go to there website for more info. jimcollinsfoundation.org. I also heard from a very reliable source, that Vt. Blue Cross/Blue Shield now pays for trans related expenses up to a life time max. I have'nt had the time to research this yet, but it did come from someone that worked on getting that to happen. So...Vermont anyone?

So, as ive said in another post I'm moving in a few days. I haven't told my father because I plan on doing it while he's in church, because of the reason **why** I'm moving (transition related.) So, I've written like 5 or 6 different (long) heartfelt letters to him, telling him that I'm trans and that I had planned to start hrt in less than a year. But slowly the letters have been changing... A few days ago I went out with a few friends and they were asking me about how my father would take the news. I told them its pretty likely that he'll completely reject me, and I started crying. I stopped skating and sat on a curb and just tucked my head into my knees and cried for a…

  10. Sunday morning finally came although it was about 4 am on Saturday that all the fun we were having finally ended. Breakfast on Sunday gave me a chance to meet another great of girls like us. I met a few girls that have had parts in movies and live plays. Most of these wonderful people were much older than me, but, all were beautiful. That afternoon the event I was waiting for was finally stating, a dress and shoe fashion show. I was going bonkers over all of the shoes that were being shown. I was in 7th heaven as I am a serious heels girl. I finally found a very sexy sandal without an ankle strap. I do not like the way I look in a dress with ankle strap sandals. They make…

Ok, This is the description of the TLC program on tonight called "Born a Boy, Brought Up a Girl" A doctor advises that a victim of a botched circumcision be raised as female. My reaction to this is - What kind of dense Dr would suggest that this would be ok? Is he stupid? Does this sound like something a real Dr would suggest to you? -Kim Side Note: That must have been ONE botched circumcision huh?

I found I used to write here often when I was ... well I guess you could say I was in turmoil. Not to say I didn’t have anything positive in my life but just that everything was followed with a “Yeah but”. No matter what I did or where I went or how great a time I should have been having it was all followed with “Yeah but”. It was two words that always were in the forefront of my mind and a voice inside screamed it whenever my eyes met a mirror ... it was my voice .. I mean to say it was my currant voice, my female voice. I’m writing now because I try to remind myself that it’s important to pass along how things are a little further down the road, after accepting one’s…

Hard to believe it's been a year since I was doing the therapy stuff. As most of you know, I started working with a life coach in late December. I took the month of Sept off from the coaching. Took the time to review all we have talked about. Going over my notes and e-mails. And, I am amazed. The way I look at things, think about things is so different. Things that used to drive me crazy are not even a blip on the radar screen anymore. For the first time in decades I can say....I am excited about my life. I have a lot of life yet to live. And....I have an awesome life coach.

  15. I have just published my latest blog https://daniellaargento.wordpress.com/2015/04/10/unity-and-diversity-not-mutually-exclusive/ In which I discuss this excellent article http://mg.co.za/article/2015-04-10-00-i-am-genderqueer-comfortable-with-my-identity-at-last Which shows so nicely that the different parts of the broader trans* community really do have more in common than some may think. We really thus have so much more to gain if we act in concert...

Ok, she's not a biological relative, but she's the friend I've talked about that has gone past friend and is now family. She has Lupus Nephritis, which is doing severe damage to her kidneys. In the event she needs a transplant I'm getting tested in the hopes that I'm a match so I can give her one of mine. What I'm asking from everyone here is to send good thoughts her way, and if you believe in a deity to please keep her in your prayers. All good thoughts and prayers can't hurt anything, and could possibly help. I'm not asking for anything more than that. Her name is Mary. Also to the staff, I couldn't figure out where this post belonged, so I just went w…

I am in the process of writing a book that will be published in about 4 years. This book is going to be an autobiography as well as a collection of stories from other Transgendered people that would like to be included. Some of the proceeds of the book are going to be donated to; The National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) and dedicated to all the Transgendered people that were murdered for just being what they were. The purpose of the book aside from the aforementioned is to pave my way out of the proverbial closet and reveal myself to the world at the same time I can help a very worthwhile cause. If anyone would like to contribute stories to this book please e-…

Hi All New to the forum. I realize true hrt is best for mtf transition, but have a couple health issues, which is why I'm trying herbs. I know changes won't be as dramatic. I am currently trying Red Clover extract, and White Peony extract. Only been on both for a little over month. I have been on ground flaxseed the longest...over a year now. I'm confused about flaxseed. Is it an anti-androgen or an estrogen helper? I read in studies it has the highest, 800 times, more phytoestrogens than any other phytoestrogen. But also read it helps eliminate estrogen in body?? So, is it helping to feminize or not? I would like to try getting more curvier in hips …

I'm sure this is out there and has been addressed somewhere, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a good site with material for friends who are interested and want to be helpful. I had a friend express an interest in something like this, which was really sweet of her.. but I realized I don't have a whole lot to pass along besides my "personal FAQ" I've been building. Most of the material I've found has been for the trans person themselves, or occasionally, coping spouses/SOs.

Hello, I hope you all are well. It's been awhile since posting. I've been reading the new postings every day however. Today is the first time I've dressed in a few months. The anti-anxiety medication I'm taking has reduced my 'need' but not my interest in dressing. (BTW, the meds were *not* intended to reduce this interest, I think my anxiety was driving me to find outlets of which this is one) Today while going back to drab before my partner comes home, I began wondering. Am I one of those people who sacrifice large amounts of their individuality to satisfy those around? I usually think of myself as easy to get along with, and willing to accomodate others to k…

I guess you know that it is time to give up on a relationship, when you spend your last cent to send someone you care about, and you think cares about you, a birthday present, and you get no thank you....no response at all. Yea, been kidding myself for too long.

  25. Updated March 24, 20169:04 AM ETPublished March 23, 201610:21 AM ETTARA HAELLE Experiencing the world as a different gender than the one assigned to you at birth can take a toll. Nearly all research into transgender individuals' mental health shows poorer outcomes. A new study looking specifically at transgender women, predominantly women of color, only further confirms that reality. What's less clear, however, is whether trans individuals experience more mental distress due to external factors, such as discrimination and lack of support, or internal factors, such as gender dysphoria, the tension resulting from having a gender identity that differs from the one assigned a…
