wednesday nite, 9pm eastern on abc. from the preview i saw tonite...it appears that there is a small boy (perhaps 4, 5 yrs old) that likes to "dress up" and daddy don' like it. not sure where it's all gonna go...but it might be worth a watch just to see how jo handles the situation if the boy likes being a little girl. -michael

The Transgender Day of Remembrance was set aside to memorialize those who were killed due to anti-transgender hatred or prejudice. The event is held in November to honor Rita Hester, whose murder on November 28th, 1998 kicked off the “Remembering Our Dead” web project and a San Francisco candlelight vigil in 1999. Rita Hester’s murder — like most anti-transgender murder cases — has yet to be solved. Transgender Day of Remembrance 2011 Events List

Video description: Are we on the cusp of discovering what determines gender? The old mantra - all girls have XX chromosomes and all boys have XY - is no longer reliable. Scientists are now looking beyond chromosomes to "brain sex" and the role of newly discovered genes. By studying transsexuals and people on the gender extremes, they believe they can unlock the gender puzzle. This high-quality documentary looks at the new and challenging science of gender.

Cruel and Unusual: Transgender Women in Prison (USA). Documentary by Janet Baus & Dan Hunt. (2006) IMDb: Imagine being a woman in a men's prison. For many individuals, this is a grim reality because the U.S. prison system decides where to place inmates based on their genitalia, not their gender identity. This award-winning documentary makes an unflinching examination of transgender women in men's prisons. PART 1: PART 2: PART 3: PART 4: PART 5: PART 6: PART 7:

So, I was going throught the centers site ( an lgbt center on like... west 13th stt in New york) and I found out there was a trans prom in 2008. I don't think there's been one since has there? Well, I wanted to start something called Trans-querade in New Jersey... Good idea? bad idea? It'll be like a masquerade ball almost, I get symbolic though... The masks symbolize the masks that we wore on the outside of our true selves. I'd really like to get this together! Feedback would be great! I e-mailed Jersey shore pflag and the pride center of new jersey, My GSA friends and adviser said it'd be a bright idea for me to try to get some sponsors and if anyone l…

  14. Yep, today's the day and I wish all you the best. Celebrate your existence, validity, and whatever visibility you have achieved. It seems that today's also the day when Brad Little, the governor of Idaho, signed into state law that trans girls may not participate in girls sports and in another law that Idahoans may not update the gender marker on their birth certificate. I also read that volunteers building that coronavirus camps in NY's Central Park are required to agree that transgender people don't exist, same-sex marriage is a sin, and gay people should be celibate or risk "damnation and eternal punishment." Of course, there are many many more examples…

Went to St. Pete Saturday and participated in the Trans March, at the beginning of the Pride parade. I simply can't describe what it felt like to have 300,000 people, cheer and roar, with genuine love, acceptance, and validation. If you can get out and be visible, do so with Pride. If you can't, your vote is as important, See photos from St. Pete Pride’s Sunday street festival (msn.com)

  19. Dear Friends, Just learned that the Southern Comfort Transgender Conference in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, which meets on the last week of September every year, has been discontinued due to lawsuits against them. The details can be learned by Googling "Southern Comfort Transgender Conference," and reading some of the websites that discuss it. Can't vouch for any of their accuracy. It is a sad loss, but thank God, there are still many transgender conferences out there. Monica

  20. Hello Everyone, My name is Brooke Friley, and I am seeking participants for my doctoral dissertation research. My project is exploring how transgender individuals decide to disclose their transgender identity to medical providers. For this project I am conducting one-hour telephone interviews during which we will discuss how this information is shared. Results from these interviews will be analyzed by transgender individuals in focus groups with the hope of working collaboratively to develop resources that might help transgender individuals navigate these difficult conversations more comfortably. All participant information will be kept confidential, and this study has …
