in the FTM Contacts, a thread was begun by a lesbian looking to meet FTMs for freindship and "possible more." [sic] this naturally morphed into a debate that branched into several directions...sorta like a bramble bush - all over the place... LOL. but i digress. this "contact" thread had been dormant for quite sometime when a rather intriguing statement was made. well...intriguing to me. might be to others...dunno. so i brought the statement here to the discussion area to see what comes of it. read on ....

Hi guys! I'm new here, let me do a quick introduction. I'm FtM, 19, knew something was up when I was 4, didn't know what it was called until I was 15 and I haven't undergone transition yet. I've never really been in a community or discussed the topic with people going through the same thing, so if I'm a bit wordy, that may be why. So I have a few questions. First of all, I know T changes your voice and all that but I'm concerned about my singing voice. I don't sing professionally, but I do have a bit of a talent with it that I like to use. I'm a 2nd soprano and I've done vocal training. I'm concerned that if I go through with T, I may never be able to sing with m…

I recently made myself a binder out of wide elastic bands (I think they're 3-4 inches wide) and some long "bra closure" things. It works very well, and manages to squish off about five inches. Laid flat, it measures 21", and compresses 34" to 29". I could breathe fine and take a full deep breath if I wanted to. The problem I found is that after about a while of wearing it - only about three hours (during which I was only driving), it was more than just a little uncomfortable. It took until after going to sleep for the effects to wear off. It was just a general shooting pain in the sternum area and it hurt to laugh even after I had taken it off (about five and a half ho…

I finally found a doc and she got my precripton filled. I will start hormones next week. Its not cool that she is a 3 hour drive away, 6 hours total drive, but for now it will have to do. I found out thru my insurance that she had to call it in and get it approved first and so she did just that and they approved it without hesitation. waaaahoooooo So, my insurance is going to cover it. I only had to pay $10. My doc put the reason I needed the "T" is because I have a low level. They asked no questions other than where to send it. It sucks in a way because they have to ship it to me, not happy about that BUT, I start "T" next week and I AM SIKED ABOUT THAT!!! lol …

So I saw my therapist this morning who specializes in gender issues, etc. He says that I should be able to get approved in November to start Testosterone! And I am going to see a surgeon on the 13th for top surgery consultation and possibly about a hysterectomy [sp?] . So things are moving along nicely. I was just wondering about how the process regarding testosterone and surgery went for everyone else. I am always very interested in hearing other stories. What was your favorite aspect of starting testosterone and your least favorite? How about for top surgery? Favorite part? Least? Has anyone gotten a hysterectomy? What was it like? How long did it tak…

A brief background: I live across the country from my family so its really hard to have personal conversations over the phone. I rather of told him in person but that could not be done. I don't plan on going back to NY until sometime around May. So I just came out and said it on the phone today. HE TOOK IT REALLY WELL!!! I kind of was dodging around the subject but knew I had to say it... I reminded him of this time when I was around 12 and we were shoveling snow and he mentioned that he aways wanted a son. He sort of remembered it. He was so I am going to have a son instead of a daughter. I was like exactly. The next step is to tell my mother. Just wanted to share …

Yesterday I decided I was going to send an e-mail to my Great-Aunt, Grandma, Step-Grandma, and Grandpa. I have gotten two responses so far. Both were surprisingly kind and accepting. They are as follows: Great-Aunt: Hi there: I was sitting - drinking tea - and had stayed home today to rest and make some jewelry. I'm not surprised by your email, and very much appreciate the clarification on these many issues. I only had limited knowledge and/or understanding of some things you'd been dealing with around all of this. (And, without a second's hesitation I love you!!! - regardless of this or anything) I guess I got in on the generation that first started to exp…

Hi, I have two questions I'd like to ask knowledgeable FtMs... Background - I have really bad acne so I'm taking both Tetralysal and Dianette capsules daily to control it (I am also taking the Dianette to make 'the dreaded event' once a month a little less painful). For these reasons (and a few others) I am reluctant to begin transitioning by dropping these to increase my testosterone levels. I would like to know: 1) Is it possible to transition without testosterone? I don't especially want the excess hair and grease and I could learn to lower my voice - but I'm guessing there's a lot more to it than that. 2) My first priority is having top surgery but I'm assum…

I've been "lurking" here a while... and... I think I'm finally going to burden everyone with my silly juvenile frustration. I "came out" to my mother a few weeks ago (uh... accidentally, she found a note a wrote her that I hadn't actually planned on giving her), and she seems to be taking it well. She was in denial at first, but yesterday she said something along the lines of, "Well, if that's the way it is, that's the way it is" in regards to my "wanting to be a boy". I'm 18, if that makes a difference to anything. Sometimes I doubt myself and what I feel because I'm so young. I feel I'm ready though to try therapy, but I'm not sure how to go about it. Is ther…

Hi guys... I'm going to have to word this really carefully to not get 'funny looks' and generally be thought of as 'not being wuite with it' as far as TG theory goes... So a couple of things.... I totally understand that gender identity and sexuality are separate... I think they are related, but yes, separate. I'm always really interested in how other people think, feel, are driven etc... [i want to be a writer.. well I have written, I'm just not published. ] So I'm also intrested in people who are different to me... and in the TG sphere, I'm a GB (genetic boy... I see the term GG quite a bit so I guess GB makes some kind of sense)... and…

Hey everyone, I've been away from the boards for awhile do to the move across the states, finding a new job (argh), and starting hormones, etc... Chest is healing really well. I just started using "scar zone and it seems to be working. I massage it on twice a day/once in the morning and once at night before bed. I massage the cream in for approx. 2-3 minutes. The left side is looking pretty good compared to the right side. The right side is going to be stubborn!! lol Anyway, the scarring on the left side started disappearing before I started using Scar Zone so that is a good thing!!! There is another brand name that is a little more expensive, but do not rem…

I was inspired by the laser hair removal thread Do any of you guys have facial hair? If you do, is it just naturally there or do you shave to make it thicker or what? I was just wondering because I have what could be considered "peach fuzz", so I can say I have a small 'stache.

FINALLY. After agonizing over it... going to someone who DEFINATELY didn't want to cut it... I did it!! And am happy with the results. Even though my dad had a small freak-out over it. So! Happy Holidays!

the reigning miss america is from the town i live in. of course everyone in the state, and especially this two-bit, wild west wannabe city, is beside themselves over their own home-grown redneckess being queen of the country. i've never been so tired of a topic for the evening news in my life. i'm also tired of hearing, "every little girl's dream!" i didn't freakin dream of being miss america, miss universe, miss whatever state... MISS ANYTHING!! i didn't even dream of being a mrs...and i'm sorry i used that path to try to convince myself that all this would go away! meanwhile, quiznos has come up with a commercial that has also chapped my rear like an over-due …

I received the papers in the mail Friday from the judge!! He signed the paper for my official gender change!! He sent me 2 copies free of charge!! They must have found the file! I'm so relieved that I didn't have to refile, although the judge said I didn't have to pay again because it was their mistake for losing the file in the first place. Next week I will go to DMV and get my new DL. waaaaaaahooooooooo Just a little excited!! LOL Ethan

Therapist finally gave me the referral for top surgery!! My surgery date is on 11/28/2006. I am so excited. Flight arrangements and hotel room is reserved. I have chosen to have surgery with Dr. Raphael because he is cheaper than Dr. Brownstein and Dr. R has a good reputation! I have met an FTM in Dallas and he has helped me out ALOT! He is arranging for me to have visits from other FTM's in the area and they too have either had top surgery or in the process of having it done! So far the assistants in Dr. Raphael's office have been OUTSTANDING! Janie has been awesome! She sent me info on local hotels, transportation to and from airport, and with Sean's name as …
