Subject: Thank Starbucks Hi, Starbucks stuck their neck out to publicly support the right of all people to marry, regardless of the gender of their partner. Now they are under attack by an anti-equality group, who has promised a global boycott. I just signed a thank you card to Starbucks for standing up for marriage equality and thought you might want to join me. http://pol.moveon.org/thankstarbucks/?r_by=-22615851-y65JeVx&rc=pac_thankstarbucks_letter.email.g1 Thanks!

Okay...I understand why commercials aimed at men use sexy women to advertise products. But why do commercials aimed at women... use sexy women to advertise the products?? I mean...women like make-up, perfumes, lotions and stuff...things to make the hair soft, the legs smooth, and boobs look bigger and perkier, and already regularly search for and shop for that miracle product. Yet there are commercials (like lip stick commercials for example) that seem to rival those late nite date/phone sex commercials where the models are trying to entice men to call them. So what's the deal? -Curious Mike

Certainly much more "Off-Topic" than "Humorous" is this story that was published in the Huffington Post. Interracial Couple Banned From Kentucky Church The pastor Melvin Thompson "proposed that the church go on record saying that while all people were welcome to attend public worship services there, the church did not condone interracial marriage... His proposal, which was accepted by a 9-6 vote last week, also suggested that married interracial couples be prohibited from becoming members and used in worship activities, except for funerals." Read the article: Interracial Couple Banned From Kentucky Church Well, thank God they can at least participate in fune…

I had to share this... For all of us who've had a *canine family member, this will be no surprise - entertaining - but no surprise. This vid makes me laugh everytime I see it. For all of you who've never had a canine family member, this video should cause you to question the experts who claim dogs respond only to emotion, the sound of your voice and body language, and not actual words or sentences, or understand certain situations. Enjoy! -Mike http://www.youtube.c...h?v=_kLdO3EsECs *Canine family member = a dog who lives in the house with the family, not the poor dog that's relegated to a doghouse in the back yard and only sees any of the family when they brin…

I can't take credit for these; I received them in an e-mail message from a friend. Here goes Man Kills Self Before Shooting Wife and Daughter This one I caught in the SGV Tribune the other day and called the Editorial Room and asked who wrote this. It took two or three readings before the editor realized that what he was reading was impossible!!! They put in a correction the next day. I just couldn't help sending this along. Too funny. Captain Bravo Long ago lived a seaman named Captain Bravo. He was a manly man’s man who showed no fear in facing his enemies. One day, while sailing the seven seas, a lookout spotted a pirate ship and the crew became frantic. Captain Bravo bellowed, “Bring me my red shirt.” The First Mate quickly retrieved the Captain’s red shirt and, while wearing the bright frock, he led his mates into battle and defeated the pirates. Later on, the lookout spotted not one, but two pirate ships. The captain again howled for his red shirt and once again vanquished the pirates. That evening, all the men sat around on the deck recounting the day’s triumphs and one of the them asked …

This is why I can't get to sleep right away at nite... crap like this comes to mind Smad. A combining of "sad" and "mad." When you're not sure of one's state of mind. Ex: When I came in the room, it looked like she might have been smad. Smangle. A combining of "smother" and "strangle." Under the right conditions, facial contortions and body language can look rather similar in either situation. Ex: The way she was flailing about, you'd have thought she was smangling. Cōllergy. A combining of "cold" and "allergy." With the fear of H1N1, a simple allergic sneeze can get a person a dirty look nowadays. But you don't want to just heartlessly accuse someone of sprea…

Thanks for the suggestion, Daneela! Heinrich Ollendorff meant well. The grammarian intended his phrasebooks to teach German, French, Danish, and Russian to a new generation of language students. But who would ever need to speak these sentences? * Stop, the postilion has been struck by lightning! * A man is drowning. Is there a life buoy, a rope, a grapnel at hand? * Unhand me, sir, for my husband, who is an Australian, awaits without. * After having lost all my money, I was beaten by bad-looking men; and, to my still greater ill luck, I hear that my good uncle, whom I love so much, has been struck with apoplexy. Ironically, he’s remembered…

Learning the difference between THEN and THAN THAN Unlike then, than is not related to time. Than is used in comparative statements. EXAMPLES: ~He is taller than I am. ~Other than the interest on a small inheritance, he had no income. ~Today's students certainly do seem to read less than students in previous generations did. ~We learned more on the playground than we did in the classroom. ~Despite their lack of flavor, the hothouse tomatoes cost far more than those from the farmers' market. THEN Then is used either as a time marker or with a sequence of events. EXAMPLES: ~I took all of the exams in the morning, and t…

Things we have learned from the movies… *During all police investigations, it will be necessary to visit a strip club at least once. *All telephone numbers in America begin with the digits 555. *Beds have special L-shaped cover sheets which reach up to the armpit level on a woman; but only to waist level on the man lying beside her. *The ventilation system of any building is the perfect hiding place. No one will ever think of looking for you in there, and you can travel to any other part of the building you want without difficulty *Should you wish to pass yourself off as a German officer, it will not be necessary to speak the language. A German accent w…
