Same ol saying’s 52 years ago: ‘I’ll tell you one thing, if things keep going the way they are, it’s going to be impossible to buy a week’s groceries for $20.’ ‘Have you seen the new cars coming out next year? It won’t be long before $2000 will only buy a used one.’ ‘If cigarettes keep going up in price, I’m going to quit. A quarter a pack is ridiculous.’ ‘Did you hear the post office is thinking about charging a dime just to mail a letter?’ ‘If they raise the minimum wage to $1, nobody will be able to hire outside help at the store.’ ‘When I first started driving, who would have thought gas would someday cost 29 cents a gallon. Guess we’d be better of…

This post has nothing to do with transgender issues nor is it humorous. I am very saddened to read this about and from Oliver Sacks this morning in the NYT: http://www.nytimes.com/2015/02/19/opinion/oliver-sacks-on-learning-he-has-terminal-cancer.html?action=click&pgtype=Homepage&region=CColumn&module=MostViewed&version=Full&src=mv&WT.nav=MostViewed I've always enjoyed his books and writing. He's erudite, interesting, and has a wonderful and enthusiastic voice that I find inspirational. I wish him the best in the coming months and will certainly buy and read his autobiography when it's released. Emma

Learning the difference between THEN and THAN THAN Unlike then, than is not related to time. Than is used in comparative statements. EXAMPLES: ~He is taller than I am. ~Other than the interest on a small inheritance, he had no income. ~Today's students certainly do seem to read less than students in previous generations did. ~We learned more on the playground than we did in the classroom. ~Despite their lack of flavor, the hothouse tomatoes cost far more than those from the farmers' market. THEN Then is used either as a time marker or with a sequence of events. EXAMPLES: ~I took all of the exams in the morning, and t…

  6. There's a lot of really goofy songs out there. All over. Some crazier than others. One of my all time favorites is Da Turdy Point Buck. The band name is even funny. Bananas At Large. Another one about banana's is Banana Phone . And the last one involving bananas: It's starting to seem that I have a rather unhealthy preoccupation with bananas...

I don't know where else to put this post on the forms, the site doesn't have "General Discussion" as a form category, anyway I'm just a little concern about the inactivity of posting within our community. I have a lot of things to post about.

Murphy's Law is a given in computer programming. Over my career, I have summarized -- The Laws of Software Engineering Anything is possible Especially the f**kups Nothing is every easy Nothing is ever good enough Nothing is ever done I also often say that 80% of my job is to outsmart Murphy. And -- Murphy's Law has a corollary for my special case. "If nothing can go wrong for anyone else, it Must go wrong for Daneela." Murphy has a seat permanently installed on my left shoulder. He watches every single thing I do. Finally, Goddess created the multiverse, but delegated day-to-day operations to Murphy. P.S. -- we can talk about the word-play in an…

Is anyone else into this? I’ve gotten into BattleBots like crazy here over the last couple months. Also has anyone had enough interest to try to put together a team and get a bot together? I do. I even have a design for a bot that would be pretty lethal in the arena. I just don’t know anything about engineering, so I don’t have a clue how to build a bot. If anyone has enough interest let’s hear it. Maybe......... who knows?

Thanks for the suggestion, Daneela! Heinrich Ollendorff meant well. The grammarian intended his phrasebooks to teach German, French, Danish, and Russian to a new generation of language students. But who would ever need to speak these sentences? * Stop, the postilion has been struck by lightning! * A man is drowning. Is there a life buoy, a rope, a grapnel at hand? * Unhand me, sir, for my husband, who is an Australian, awaits without. * After having lost all my money, I was beaten by bad-looking men; and, to my still greater ill luck, I hear that my good uncle, whom I love so much, has been struck with apoplexy. Ironically, he’s remembered…

Certainly much more "Off-Topic" than "Humorous" is this story that was published in the Huffington Post. Interracial Couple Banned From Kentucky Church The pastor Melvin Thompson "proposed that the church go on record saying that while all people were welcome to attend public worship services there, the church did not condone interracial marriage... His proposal, which was accepted by a 9-6 vote last week, also suggested that married interracial couples be prohibited from becoming members and used in worship activities, except for funerals." Read the article: Interracial Couple Banned From Kentucky Church Well, thank God they can at least participate in fune…

  19. I'm not sure what has brought this article to the forefront considering it is from March 2012 - perhaps it is because there has been a recent comment posted. I thought maybe there had been an update, but I saw none. However, I don't recall ever seeing this article before, and thought that it might be of interest to others who may not have seen it. -Mike Posted: 03/19/2012 3:16 pm Updated: 03/19/2012 3:21 pm Greeting card verse: Jack and Jill, Went up the hill, So Jack could see Jill's fanny. This appears like a good test http://www.kgw.com/s...tness/24076407/ If you first just read the article it sounds like "what the heck", does this really give an idea on if you will live five years more. Watch the video and note that many had issues completing it. I was not going to try it as I do similar actions when teaching but did it anyways, perfect 10.

to be stumped - Be stumped no more! Being "stumped" comes from the pioneering days when the land was cleared to lay down train tracks. When the workers came across a tree stump, it would cause a dilemma or "to be stumped."

  23. Non-sequitor? I say nay, these are some Heavy Metal or other metal songs I found to make me feel better when gender dysphoria is striking out at me. Whether you are having a rough day, doubting yourself, feeling depressed, or whatever I hope these songs will uplift your spirit and remind you to be free and happy. 1. Want to be a heavy metal queen? Sorry Doro has that spot already taken, but it doesn't mean this song won't feel somewhat relatable. 2. Sometimes we all need a refuge of our own, someplace that makes us feel at home, sometimes that place is music. 3. This song maybe a little intense for some, but I feel the song has a dark an…

The Blues took the cup. I’ve always hated them, but to see them win, royally sucks. I don’t have any feelings towards Boston one way or another. I’m a Detroit Red Wings fan. But the Blues are the one team I can’t stand. Every sports fan has theirs. The team they worship and the team they want to drop a nuke on. And the latter won the Stanley Cup. 🤬🤬🤬
