I was with my mother the other night, and we usually end up on some topics that I wouldn't expect, but it just so happened that night we ended up on just the topic I needed to get my foot in the door. I casually began inquiring whether she would be upset, or okay with the fact that I would eventually like to start hormone therapy. A little shocked to see one of those KY sensation stuff commercials last evening featuring a gay female couple. I realize this isnt tg related, but i was still shocked. I also thought how cool that we've come this far that a sexual aid featuring a gay couple made it on mainstream tv. Nothing gay related on tv when i was younger. But, i did not appreciate ky commercials featuring anyone obviously using it for sex, being on at 6pm on regular tv. C'mon really ? Sitting with my 11 year old neice watching history channel? Did not appreciate that.

The "Trans Dating" section has some info but it looks like a huge ad for TVTSDating.com. I know the ad revenue helps keep this site functioning and looking awesome so i'm not saying i have a problem with that. I'm curious what recommendations members have for transgender dating sites? I am a bit dumbfounded by it all. I mean the labels we use to describe ourselves: TS, TV, TG, CD, trans, genderqueer, etc. The nice young doctor asked me what I described myself as. Would I call myself a transvestite? No, I said, I am seeking a referral to an expert to find out what I am. If you need a description, transgender will do, I said. And that is why I post in this section of these boards, rather than in the cross-dresser section, or the transsexual section. Whilst I recognise the cross-dresser and the transsexual in me, I don't feel I am wholly one or the other.

I have a background in Genetics. When someone presents as TG at a Gender Identity clinic a blood sample is sent to the nearest Genetics lab to do a karyotype. As far as I am aware our lab has never diagnosed an intersex person through this referral route. Most are picked up by endocrinologists, paediatricians and fertility clinics. Intersex conditions are not very common. Yet reading through the various boards it appears a number of TG contributors legitimise their being transgendered by applying the term intersex to describe themselves. I had an interesting chat today with someone from Personnel regarding me coming to work dressed according to my inner perspective. It appears that TS are very easy to manage in the sense that one day they appear as one gender, the next day in their new gender role. Changes such as name changes, new ID badges, and so on, can be easily implemented. A TG defies that easy rule, because every day could be different. I never feel very masculine or manly, and when I pretend to be manly (grr, beats chest) it's very comical. It is also insightful, in that being manly doesn't come easily to me. Coming out is a very personal matter. It's telling the world that this is who I am. I am mindful that my coming out process came several weeks after discovering that I was a crossdresser. When I did accept myself all of the stress in my life dissipated. It took over a week that I had gone over a divide that I never imagined that I would cross.
