Transgender At Five Washington Post While autism is more common than transgender issues (or is it?), society is far from embracing those who differ from the norm. To get back on topic, parents who support their children no matter what are to be commended...

I saw this report in the L.A. Times and tought it quite fascinating. Quote,"Like me and Jazz. She's trans, she's bi, whatever. I'm not. But I like her. She's a person, he's a person . . . whatever. I like her for who she is. Or he is." http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-banks17-2008jun17,0,4432197.column Seems like the young people are get it better than the adults. ;)

Wayne Maines, 08.06.2012 1:49pm "One of the first decisions is whether to tell others that our children are transgender. This decision is often dynamic, as the environments change, we have to change, too. Not telling our schools and community is called "Going Stealth." Going stealth often starts as early as preschool. It is a simpler time in many ways. No one need's to know except family, doctors and a small inner circle of friends. Later, in elementary school, we often decide to leave stealth mode to inform teachers, staff and sometimes community leaders that we have a transgender child. It is not an easy decision. Doing so creates new challenges and bigger fears." -hu…

Mitch Kellaway | February 05 2015 3:05 PM ET "This week, Q opened up to the Empire State Pride Agenda about what it means to be him in a handwritten letter — sprinkled with heartwarming details and several misspellings — that he then recorded himself reading aloud. Along with his mother, Francisca, Q lent his story to the Pride Agenda's Change.org petition to protect LGBT youth from "conversion" therapy and secure trans New Yorkers basic civil rights." --advocate.com Adorable 8-Year-Old on Being a Trans Boy: 'I Just Know It'

Caused from the events in this thread; Louisiana “Louisiana Girl Scouts have never been asked to admit a transgendered child, said Marianne Addy, the spokeswoman for Girl Scouts Louisiana East, which provides scouting activities for 17,000 girls. And soon after the Colorado decision last fall, Louisiana Scouting directors, who are free to set local policy, decided transgendered children would not be allowed should one ever apply.” - Bruce Nolan Transgendered Girl Scout causes stir

After talking to my best friend and her mom I want to start transitioning. My friend started three years ago and she looks so much different. Her mom is very supportive of her decision but I know my parents won't be. I haven't even told them how I feel. My friend and her mom said that they will help me as much as they can. What should I do? I don't want to wait until I've fully gone through puberty as a male to start to transition to female because I know it will make it much more difficult.

I just found this article on Forbes, read it, and then watched the YouTube video. Below is the link to the article and below that is a link to the YouTube video because it can't be viewed in full screen (for some reason) on Forbes. I posted it here in the youth section because I feel it would be so valuable for any young person to watch, trans or not: Article: VIDEO: Watch Youth Soccer Coach Come Out As Transgender To His Players Video: Authenticity: Portland Community Football Club Founder and Director, Kaig Lightner, shares his identity of being a transgender man with the players.

Here's a delightful story and link to NPR's audio report on Allie, a transgender 8-year old girl. "[People say,] 'You know I'm not against anyone that's transgender, I just don't want them using my same bathroom.' I mean that's like saying, 'I like black people, I just don't want them to sit at my lunch counter,' " Jen says. Allie doesn't know much about the debate over bathrooms. School and dance classes keep her busy, along with the lessons she shares with neighbors about what it means to be transgender. When The Kid Becomes The Teacher: On What It Means To Be Transgender

In December of fourth grade she socially transitioned from male to female and finished out the year with a seamlessness that no one could have anticipated." -huffingtonpost.com What's in a Name?

I Was Promised a Pony! Catherine Oliver Posted: 04/19/2012 11:02 am This blog is dedicated to trans*, bigender, and gender-variant youth. "I always knew I wasn't like others. I didn't want a boyfriend, and I wore clothes that the other girls called "boy's clothes," all the time. I played in the mud, ran after soccer balls, and climbed trees. "Tomboy," they said."
