Navigating the social mores of the public restroom when you're not cisgender can be a tricky dance, practiced multiple times a day. BY Riki Wilchins, February 07 2013 5:00 AM ET "Yes, I know there's an app for that, which will enable your iPhone to locate the nearest gender neutral restroom. And if you you live in downtown Seattle or go to school at UC Berkeley, it probably works great. I usually find the nearest one is at least two time zones away." --advocate.com Op-ed: 'It's The Women's Room!' And Other Bathroom Complications

Hi everyone my name is Jo and I am new to the site and wanted to ask about how I get started with my transition from MTF. I have made an appointment with a therapist and I have read about transitioning from multiple sources but I still don't quite know what all the steps are. I am married and have a beautiful little girl and I want to make sure that I do everything correctly for them. I always felt I was different growing up and began crossdressing at an early age but I didn't understand why and neither did my parents. I recently came out to my wife and she is supporting me. Please if anyone wishes to help me out I would greatly appreciate it.

If you've come out and had an open outright rejection and also had a closed rejection(meaning someone has a real issue with you but doesn't say it) Which one was worse. Or if you not come out as I have not. Which one do you fear more? For me I would much rather have the outright rejection. I think having someone who has an issues and not saying so is much worse, at least for me.

I am trying really hard to stay positive, but ? All I want to do is stop existing! May be people were right when they told me I am platitude. this person told me to leave the web site /chat room. This hurt my feelings very much! maybe I should not write this massage but it bothers me to be rejected, and judged again. Sorry to bother you; please forgive me. If you wish I will leave this one too? Thank you for your time. Peace Out

Always wise to reveal yourself when dating. Just force yourself to watch a Jerry Springer episode that has transgender guest on and they tell someone they have a penis and watch the fireworks go off. If you do need to tell someone make sure it's in a safe place as their manhood may take a jolt and cause reprisals. This picture may be silly but it can get real.

Hello! I was wondering if you guys remembered going out trying to pass as the "opposite gender" for the first time? What did you learn from that first time? What would you have done different if you could redo it, and would you recommend going with friends or alone at first? Thanks :)

My mind tends to wander. A lot. One thought in particular went through the empty space this morning as I was on my way to the vet. For my rat, not me. If someone who matters to me was to ask, about sexual orientation, I have no idea how to honestly answer that question. I’m bisexual, but for the sake of argument let’s say I’m not. Seeing as I’m a woman, and have always been attracted to women, does that mean I’m a lesbian? Or does genetics rule this one and I’m still straight? The same goes for the men. If you guys are attracted to men does that mean you’re gay, or is genetics on top here too? Now flip it and ask the same question. On one hand the answer …

I hesitantly post this, but it seems needful to me, to never forget that cruelty thrives in people i can only see as incredibly damaged and misinformed. Please, always be careful out there. A minority movement can grow, and a minority member can strike.

Does anybody have any advice on what career options would be suitable for a MTF transsexual? I am currently pre- everything so it has to be a job I can transition at. I have a degree, if that helps. Also, I am from the UK and I am quite good with people if that helps. Ty.

I am looking for information about having bones that match the gender you identify with and not your birth sex. I am a 40 year old born male transgender person. I am waiting to see the endocrinologist for HRT still. I have always felt like my body looked feminine but later in puberty my chest deepened more masculine. When I was first near puberty my pelvis grew wider as I used to walk into door frames for a time and had bruises on both sides where the pelvic crest sticks out. Recently I had a CT scan done to check for kidney stones. I got the copy of the scan and used a 3D program to look at my bones. I have asked a doctor to look at the images and have asked on a biology…

I asked this question on another site. My reason being that maybe I can get some insight into something I have noticed. I don't really want answers from cisgender folk. I am more interested in what y'all think. I noticed that many transsexuals say they felt transsexual from the age of 7 or 8. Not all but very many. Have you ever wondered why that age span? Do you have a theory? The main reason I ask is to try to get some insight because of people I know and meet. Sort of get an idea of what they think so I don't say the wrong thing to them. Thank you.

For years i have been spending big bucks to hang onto my CPA license. I am now thinking of letting it go. I am so far behind when it comes to the technology part of the field. And I keep thinking, what CPA firm would hire a 55 year old transman that would have to start at an entry level? I do hate to let it go because it is one of the hardest licenses to get, and yea, it took alot of hard work. And in writing this I think about the idea of 'wasted talent,' How so many of us have talents to offer if we just had the chance to be who we are.

Well, we all pass throu life wondering about this life we were born into, it never seams easy, its always a struggle, it throws us curve balls, sadness seams to dominate our days, ignorant people surround us, there never seams to be enough time, it all zips by or creeps along, we dont fit in, you can never find that happy moment or place, we feel to heavy or to thin, we are all in but life just seams to be standing on the side lines. Well, what can you do about it, I am still in this game but I keep striking out. I have come to understand that no matter what we all do nothing matters, at the end of the day tomorrow brings another inning, is it insinsanity to keep steppi…

Hi all, long time since I visited here, hope all are well. My question is about the word transition, I have read about people who abandon transition due to money, location, and the like. Does transition only mean physical changes? In my non tg mind, transition happens inside first, like for a M to F person, they are transitioned already inside, it's the clothing and appearance that matter so much? If money is the issue, but you are M to F inside, can't just simple clothes and maybe makeup be OK? Or does the meaning of the word Transition mean that hormones and/or surgery is necessary? I met a auto magazine reporter who was born male, and all they do is wear femal…

I read an article about transgender rights being twenty years behind gay rights. What the article neglected to say was the reasons why. Here is my feelings and the reasons. 1. Roadblocks Transgender people and drag queens were front and center at the 1969 Stonewall Riots. When the leadership positions were created, transgender people were pushed to the margins. During the 1970s and 1980s laws were passed by gay and lesbian organizations to keep us out and prevented us from accessing resources we desperately needed. People like Janice Raymond and others were major obstacles. 2. Cold Feet Here in New York in 2010 marriage equality was on the same docket as gen…
