Dear Friends, After I returned from a Gender Conference, I learned that a transwoman, who I don't personally know, but who is a dear friend of a friend of mine had GCS only a day after the Conference ended. The very next day, she had facial feminization surgery. During the facial feminization surgery, she aspirated vomit into her lungs, and went into a deep coma with a very poor prognosis, and then passed away a few days later. The doctor in question, was a speaker at the Conference, two of whose talks I attended, and he offered "free" mini-consults during the Conference, and I was told he offered discounts to those who agreed to surgery during the Conference. …

If you are going to transition and wish to pass as a cis-gendered woman, where do you find your frame of reference? Women of my age have been mothers and are probably now grandmothers as well, they have lived all of their lives in the role I yearn to fill. They've been given help and guidance from mothers and grandmothers, female relatives and girlfriends. How do you make up for all that time and experience. As a transwoman, I would become the person I have though I should have been all my life, my crossdressing has always been a temporary fix, stolen moments which have always been moments alone. There has never a girlfriend around to tell me that, that shade of lips…

By Fiona Macdonald 20 July 2017“I feel like a mermaid. My body tells me that I am a man but my soul tells me that I am a woman. I am like a flower, a flower that is made of paper. I shall always be loved from a distance, never to be touched and no smell to fall in love with.” Heena, 51, is a hijra: a term, according to Bangladeshi photographer Shahria Sharmin, that has “no exact match in the modern western taxonomy of gender”. How many transgender people are there? The National Center for Transgender Equality estimates that between 0.25% to 1% of the population is transgender. This estimate is supported by estimates from sex researchers who have attempted to arrive at an estimated number of transgender people. I suspect the number of transgender people is much closer to 1% than it is to .25%. The latter would seem an extremely conservative number to me. The business of trying to estimate how many transgender people there are is challenging at best. Many trans people integrate into mainstream society and will not divulge their past. Others are repressed and do their best to deny the transg…

Trans Media Watch expert says transgender people should show the press they're just as diverse as the rest of society 18 October 2012 | By Helen Belcher Trans people have been complaining for some time about how they are represented in the media. Trans Media Watch (TMW) has made quite an impact since it was formed in 2009, with high profile events and contacts, and recent recognition as a finalist at the recent National Diversity Awards. Let me declare an interest – I’m heavily involved in TMW. But there are still some fundamental questions to be discussed. TMW is not alone in asking for trans people to be represented as they actually are, rather than being…

I got to thinking about this as I waited at my son's school today . I'm about to get dressed to the 9's to do a memorial for the many who have been murdered or taken their lives tonight at 7 P-M . Uh, it's T D O R folks . I want to propose we as Americans have a Trans Day of celebration ! Yes, a day where trans People are finally recognized for their achievements , their contributions to society and community . In addition , some worthy recipient could be presented an award , a potential college student with a scholarship, a lawmaker acknowledged for doing the right thing that year . Yes, many of these elements have been squeezed into T D O R services . Hey, if the ga…

What prompts a person to claim being attacked when s/he really wasn't? In the past 2 or 3 years, I've read a few articles about lesbians claiming to have been attacked (Charlie Rogers, Dayna Morales - to name a few), alleging a hate crime against TGLB people. Recently, there has been a trangender student claim to have been attacked while coming out of the men's room in school. He later recanted his story. Do these people believe they are helping to change things for TGLB people? What could possibly be going through their minds when they report crimes that never happened? And with today's technology, do they really believe they will not be found out? Seems t…

I was thinking about past experiences last night and one popped into my head that made me start laughing all over again. Before I was in the wheelchair, and still able to walk, I was out for a drive one day. I ended up needing gas and pulled into a gas station to fill up. On the other side of the pump were a couple guys doing the same. We made eye contact for about a tenth of a second and went back to what we were doing. Now bear in mind I was in booty shorts and a spaghetti strap top. It may have looked a bit trashy, but it was hot so I didn't care. Anyway, it's obvious that I'm a transgender woman. I can hear their conversation from across the pump as we're only about 6…

Just talked to my Mom today. In talking with her, i told her that she is always invited to come down. Told her it's been many years since she has seen me, so I have changed alot on the outside...and before i could complete my sentence...my Mom said, "but you are still the same on the inside." Nice!! My Mom is also 83 years old so she did'nt know if she could remember how to get to my place. But I have a cousin that visits her often. Told my Mom, find a time you and my cousin can come down. Told her,"You are welcome anytime." Writing this because I am finding my Mom was just waiting for the invitation. That she is had the time to deal with my transition and has j…

I have been in such a low place lately. My depression meds don't seem to be working. I haven't even wanted to shave my chest or armpits or legs. Which I normally do. I have been called out before on pieces of clothes I wear. But that does not really bother me. What bothers me the most is the looks people who don't understand give me. When someone makes a comment of look at that guy he has boobs. Or is he wearing women's pants? What does he think he is. Well and a lot of those comments are made by people I deal with daily. I use the bathroom in the front of my work so nobody will walk in and see my panties that I wear daily. In fear of being a victim of a hate crime. Its s…
