Many may question their gender growing up, but never really give it too much in-depth thought. Others will go along [happily] being themselves "because." And in a lot of cases, that they are not the gender they know themselves to be isn't usually an issue until - PUBERTY. Puberty comes skulking around, doing its dastardly deeds on our bodies, making changes we knew were inevitable but chose to ignore. In some cases, we deceived ourselves into thinking these changes would never happen to us...because after all, we know best who we really are, in spite of what other people may believe. Puberty in itself wreaks havoc on many teens. They become rebellious. Some dabble i…

This may be the finest presentation I've ever seen by the parent of a transgender child. I came across it late last night and found myself brought close to tears and real joy for the family and for Dana, their wonderful son: Proud to call you my transgender son

  3. Wayne Maines, 08.06.2012 1:49pm "One of the first decisions is whether to tell others that our children are transgender. This decision is often dynamic, as the environments change, we have to change, too. Not telling our schools and community is called "Going Stealth." Going stealth often starts as early as preschool. It is a simpler time in many ways. No one need's to know except family, doctors and a small inner circle of friends. Later, in elementary school, we often decide to leave stealth mode to inform teachers, staff and sometimes community leaders that we have a transgender child. It is not an easy decision. Doing so creates new challenges and bigger fears." -hu…

  4. She's in the news again... Jul 13, 10:34 AM (ET) By FRAZIER MOORE EW YORK (AP) — Like many 14-year-old girls, Jazz Jennings goes to school, plays soccer, hangs out with friends, has a thing for mermaids and loves social media, kind of wishes her tummy were a little bit flatter, and lives life feeling good about herself. She's also transgender. She was assigned male at birth yet was sure as young as 2 years old that she was a girl. She transitioned into Jazz at 5. http://apnews.myway.com/article/20150713/us-tv-i-am-jazz-3fc49bc953.html

  5. "Jonas and Wyatt Maines were born identical twins, but from the start each had a distinct personality... The process of remaking a family of identical twin boys into a family with one boy and one girl has been heartbreaking and harrowing and, in the end, inspiring - a lesson in the courage of a child, a child who led them, and in the transformational power of love..." 7. And now, from Texas: To Be, or Not to Be in the Yearbook. A transgender high school student in Texas was told his yearbook photo was rejected because he wore a tuxedo. Michelle Garcia | November 13 2013 5:15 PM ET "The photography studio that took Loredo's senior picture was told to withhold it once school administrators learned that he took it in a tuxedo, Loredo says. After the family lodged a complaint with the district, the superintendent reportedly said the photo would offend the town's "community standards."" --advocate.com Student Omitted From Yearbook — Possibly for Tuxedo

She said it means those children aren’t necessarily born that way but might have developed into that identity.” - Kay Luna, The Quad-City Times Gender identification occurs early Looks like we’re back on “Nature VS Nurture”. ~ Beth

  13. Ontario, Canada “This is bad, bad stuff. First, there is a great deal of medical research proving these profoundly serious drugs have deleterious effects on the brain and can do untold damage. Second, such treatment is not widely endorsed at all, and there are very few doctors who would advise or prescribe such medication. Third, the whole argument rests on the assumption that young people may be "trapped" in the wrong body, rather than being confused, abused, unhappy kids.” - MICHAEL COREN No sex, please This is a pretty darn good example of a well articulated transphobic individual being allowed to spread a healthy dose of hate in the news ~ Beth

  15. “The Sunday Times over the weekend had a feature about six children suffering from Gender Identity Disorder who are being given drugs to delay the onset of puberty, giving them more time to decide whether they wish to change sex later in life. The operations are being paid for by the taxpayers, although I don't think that's the issue. If the state can pay several thousands to save a person from a life of misery and eventual suicide then I for one think that is money well-spent. And yet the strange thing is that, taking aside the fact that “blockers” may affect cognitive ability and bone density, there's actually no accepted medical proof or consensus that sex change oper…

Along with his mother, Francisca, Q lent his story to the Pride Agenda's Change.org petition to protect LGBT youth from "conversion" therapy and secure trans New Yorkers basic civil rights." --advocate.com Adorable 8-Year-Old on Being a Trans Boy: 'I Just Know It'

  23. Leslie Lagerstrom 07.09.2012 "With situations like this, we have found that it is good to involve an intermediary -- good for the people we are interacting with, because they do not have to worry about offending us with questions, comments, or concerns, and even better for us, because rejection from an intermediary somehow hurts less than receiving it directly from the source. With that in mind, we enlisted the help of a camp chaperone... "And so we waited. And worried. And obsessed. And wondered if it would be possible for these people to give Sam a much-deserved chance to go to camp just like everyone else." -huffingtonpost.com A Happy Camper
