Coming Out, a New York Times interactive feature, contains videos and stories from gay, lesbian, bisexual and trans people. It is advertised as a "weeklong series," but I'm not sure when it began...so members might want to check this feature out soon in case it disappears. I haven't seen all the vids, or read all the stories, but one was interesting to me - a young gay teen who was in ROTC. He mentions putting off going into the military after high school (despite the repeal of DADT)...he feels he might still have to hide who he is. I wanted to go into the army after high school, but didn't because back then, it was assumed that any female in the army was gay. I …

http://transequality.org/issues/national-transgender-discrimination-survey In 2011, NCTE and the National LGBTQ Task Force released the National Transgender Discrimination Survey. Interviews with over 6,400 transgender and gender non-conforming people make it the largest such study ever conducted. The study has been a game changer—both for our policy work and for cultural change. For the first time, we were able to quantify the discrimination and violence transgender people face. NCTE is now working on a second iteration of the survey to be released in 2016 that will measure how things are now and how they have changed over the past five years. The findings from NTDS are…

Hard to believe it's been a year since I was doing the therapy stuff. As most of you know, I started working with a life coach in late December. I took the month of Sept off from the coaching. Took the time to review all we have talked about. Going over my notes and e-mails. And, I am amazed. The way I look at things, think about things is so different. Things that used to drive me crazy are not even a blip on the radar screen anymore. For the first time in decades I can say....I am excited about my life. I have a lot of life yet to live. And....I have an awesome life coach.

I am new to the forums and not really transgendered at all, but here to gain knowledge of transgender issues. I was wondering if anybody had made a study of transgenderism as it might relate to the Myer-Briggs personality classifications. There are 16 personality types in the Myer-Briggs classification system, and I am one of the most rare, INTJ (borderline ENTJ). Only 2% of the total population at very most is an INTJ. On top of that, it has a VERY STRONG GENDER BIAS as there are 3 male INTJ types for every 1 female INTJ type. The 4 different NT types make up 25% of the total personality types while only being somewhere between 7% and 10% of the population. On the other …

As I wear my tight-lacing corset and practice signing my new name, I feel flighty. There is no other word I can think of; I am giddy and my my mind is racing. I love the click of my gel-colored fingernails (deep metallic blue). I got my eyebrows done a couple of days ago (DC sure has a lot of places for fingers and brows ). Tomorrow (Halloween) I am accompanying a good lady friend to a bar celebration, as the designated walker and metro rider. I will take advantage of the night to strut in one of my three-inch heel shoes (black lace-up pumps) and thereafter, have the 'stuff' I need to wear heels whenever I want to- which will be Sunday. Cheers

I've been quite busy trying to keep up with all the latest attacks on the trans community and related news stories. We all know the bad news. The Trump Administration is hell bent on destroying the transgender community. The good news is there are a lot of good people and organizations that are on our side. Here are some information sources I'm doing my best to keep updated: TGGuide Facebook Page Trans Rights Watch Trans News Watch Being immersed in this every day, it can become overwhelming but I believe we will win this war that has been unfairly waged against us. Please take some time now and then to disconnect from the news and take car…

so im writing this to tell you that my experience in the women's shelter here at VOA has been positive so far. the women have been nothing but nice to me and treating me so well. i feel so relaxed and easy and i can be my self more here then when i was at the men's shelter. Monica has been super awesome in helping me feel safe and makes sure that im well taken care of. i highly recommend this shelter for those who happen to be in reno nevada who are transgender MTF as they welcome our community with open arms. i even had one to help me with my makeup today and i got complimented with my over all look. im feeling so good about myself and not depressed as i was when i was i…

Just heard a song from the past that reminds me how far we have come and how far we need to go. The song is George Thorogood, Bad to the bone. I remember back in 1990, I was dealing with a therapist that would not hear of my gender issues. I got so mad that I drove my car under her window, blasted this song and started dancing on my car. Yea, I ended up in a padded cell. But I look back on that and see that as my defining moment. The moment I said to the world....here I am. Just wondering, what was your defining moment?

Just courious , how many here have that persistant back ground boice within there heads telling them .... Well more like shouting at them that what ever they do nothing will change , they are still a man ( woman ) and no amount of surgery or hormones will change this . Or that your not worthy to transition and you dont desirve to do so .. Why not , why dont I desirve , or why wont I pass , or do I truelly matter at all , whats been eating at your mind . Driving that voice inside to make you doubt or hesitate or question who it is you are . I will share later I just want to get the ball rolling. Hugs Stephani

Years ago I was in Spain and went into a bar called the Daunte, All the 'ladies' in there were wearing neck scars like back in the 60's. I found out later it was to hide the Adams Apple. My question is what is involved in removing the Adams Apple? BTW there is more to the story, but I'll not bore ya with it here (chuckles) SaltyRob

Opinion - Not sure if this falls under news, gossip, rumour or information...but I found this after googling Warren Beaty's and Annette Benning's son looking for topics to bring to the forums. Stephen Ira is about as controversial and 'in-your-face' as a person can be. Makes me wonder what his motives are, and will any [possible] future children of his suffer for his radical actions. -Michael Dr. Jody Overland, 03 August 2012 "Warren Beatty and Annette Bening are going to be grandparents courtesy of their transgender son, Stephen Ira. Apparently Warren is not too pleased with idea. It seems that Warren has never been too keen on the whole Kathlyn Elizabeth beco…

The Leveson Report in British press standards has some harsh words about the tabloids’ treatment of transgender people – now action is needed 29 November 2012 | By Helen Belcher " For days before the hearing in Court Room 73, I was frequently reduced to tears reading and re-reading the horrors that trans people and their families were repeatedly subjected to. It was powerful stuff, and the inquiry team, including my interrogator, the fearsome and erudite Robert Jay QC, seemed sympathetic." --gaystarnews.com My tears over Leveson trans evidence (w-Video) See related threads: ............. ............. << classic example of the types of issues dis…

In the thread " (by Stephani), I read the following in Ellen's (tbirdgal) post to the thread, "...various laws in several states requiring the three pieces of clothing on you at time of arrest are still on the books..." I didn't want to de-rail the thread, so I thought I'd create a new one that might spark some discussion...because this inquiring mind wanted to know what this meant. I didn't want appear too stoopid, so I tried to google it first - what I found would dictate whether or not I created this thread . In a wikipedia article, I found the statement, "women were required to wear three pieces of feminine clothing, and would be arrested if found not wearing th…

I may be the only one, but does anyone else have that rare occurrence where being misgendered isn’t really a big deal? I got rid of a TV earlier and the guy called me “sir”. I haven’t shaved today, and knew I wasn’t going to see him again, so I didn’t see a reason to get into it. I wasn’t particularly dressed one way or the other. He was here for all of 10 minutes so there wasn’t a reason to press the issue. Does anyone else ever have that rare occurrence where you really don’t care? Or am I missing something important?

Last night while out celebrating our anniversary my spouse and I discussed more about transgenderism. I don't remember how the converstion got started but we had an interesting conversation. She has read some of the book I'm currently reading My Husband Wears My Clothes by Peggy Rudd. Louise showed me something on page 94 of the book. It is a case study of a 13 year old girl who father is a crossdresser. Lydia, her sister, mother and father share clothes. They go out on shopping trips together. They are an open and loving family. We have gone on shopping trips a few times and we share some clothing. I tease her and tell her that its easier on budget. We haven't foug…

I realized when I was about 4 or 5 that I'm not a girl on the inside. I'm a boy trapped inside this body, like an animal. I'm not supposed to be a girl. I'm supposed to be a boy. Aside from that, once I found out there were others like me, I started to come out. But coming out to some people is easier than coming out to others, like my family. My aunt, who hates gays and lesbians and etc., said that gays are possessed by evil demons. There's something wrong with her. I'm certainly not possessed by an evil demon. My mom, just thinks it's a teenager thing and I'm too young to think that I know stuff like this. But she's secretly confused and it's pretty obvious. She wo…

Hi. I have never had counseling and have been self-medication for a number of years. I know it is bad but it is what it is. I want to start counseling and also start seeing an endo because I want orchi surgery. I did not just start randomly taking meds but read and studied a lot about hormone therapy. My question is-Will it be a problem to start therapy or go to an endo because of the self medication? Will they refuse to help?
