Do you think that you are truelly in need of hormones to change you into a woman or a man, does this concept control you in some sort of way good bad indifrent maybe...I am only courious as to why the thought of hormones can cure our ills they dont change us in a drastic way they wont mirakulously change us over night into the woman ( or man ) we know we are to be so what is it about them that makes our minds turn to them in such a fasion? I know that hormones can aid in the process, I know that they also help in some developmental aspects of the transition, but the why bothers me, why must I turn to them, or must I even turn to them at all. Yesturday at the end of my therapy session, my therapist mentioned that he thought I was "Gender Conservative" or somthing like that, i don't remember the exact way he put it. he said he mentioned it at the end because he wanted me to think about it before our next session, but I have no idea what he means by it. does anyone have any ideas?

Hi I am new here and I am from the New England area. I have felt like I was born in the wrong sex since I was 7. I was browsing this site (http://www.transgendercare.com/medical/resources/index.htm). I have a question about anti-androgens. Whats the difference between Finasteride and Spironolactone? I'm on spiro, but I would like to learn more about finastride (just to learn ). Does anyone have any stories from using either one or both these anti androgens? Love you always, -Nikki

I was asked by the leader of our bimonthly fellowship if I would like to teach a lesson. I said that I would. I am the only transgender person in the group so this is a welcome opportunity share what it is to be a gender variant individual. Transgender basics about the different expressions of gender and the role transgender people have played in history are a couple of topics that I have in mind. There are probably other topics that could be discussed. I'll have to think about it. I welcome the opportunity to share what it is to be transgender and a cross dresser. Alex is a rather large breeder pig who lives on a cattle ranch where I've been allowed to visit the horses. He is considered somewhat of a pet there. I know I am new here but after reading some of these posts I wonder how many others feel the same. As with my family and co workers they claim to be Religous and according to the Bible being gay or Trans is not Gods way and is a sin. In an effort to stave off getting "cabin fever" I try to find winter projects. Well, what to do? earlier this year I bought an antique sewing table (to use for a TV stand). I was wondering why the thing was so darned heavy. Well, opened it up and guess what? There's a Singer sewing machine from the 1940's. Wow !!! With all the attachments!!! I live in northwest Pennsylvania, about 2 hours drive from Pittsburgh. Basically it’s not the best place for a transgendered person. There is, first of all no access to transgender friendly doctors or therapists nearby. It’s a completely conservative Christian dominant region. Put it this way, Democrat is a curse word around here. Plus there’s nothing for anyone to do except bowling or the “redneck bar & grill”. I will soon have the ability to relocate. In my profession, I can work near or within commuting distance to any major city. Where’s the best place to go? I love New York City but, hate the cold. Long story short I have gender dysphoria. It was interesting but disturbing seeing just how much I have in common mentally with transgendered people. It seems I've taken an unusual or unheard of path however. Complete transition just sounds too dangerous what with all the bigots out there, legally changing gender while not having an extremely rare type of family /etc/... So even though I identify as very feminine in personality, I masquerade as gender neutral. Trying to do what I can to be somewhat passable without getting completely screwed over if I'm discovered. This means no buying appearance altering products which may be suspicious, no going to doctors for anything …

This week on Tuesday I received my first hormone prescription. I am so happy upon taking the first steps to transition. Yeah baby yeah, I'm so happy. I even received a round of applause when I told everyone in the support group I visit in NYC. I hope all is well with everyone here. ^_^
