I've been developing this FAQ to hand out to supportive friends and family and I thought maybe it had some things in it that might be useful for others on here. I've tried to be as unbiased and up to date as possible, though I am lacking "sources" for some things that I can't remember where I heard them now. I heard that one of my neices encountered my ex the other day and that she was trying to find out things without actually asking her any direct questions. Last night we were hanging out with some friends who were talking about how they periodically have "girls-only" and "boys-only" parties. They send the guys over to one house to do as they will (commonly, I understand, this has to do with drinking and watching kung fu movies). The girls to go another house to do as they will (apparently this involves a lot of cooking and watching movies of some sort, I don't know). Now I'm not super comfortable with either one of those things, but nothing says I have to participate. I'm sure this is out there and has been addressed somewhere, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a good site with material for friends who are interested and want to be helpful. I had a friend express an interest in something like this, which was really sweet of her.. but I realized I don't have a whole lot to pass along besides my "personal FAQ" I've been building. Most of the material I've found has been for the trans person themselves, or occasionally, coping spouses/SOs.

I am in the process of writing a book that will be published in about 4 years. This book is going to be an autobiography as well as a collection of stories from other Transgendered people that would like to be included. Some of the proceeds of the book are going to be donated to; The National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) and dedicated to all the Transgendered people that were murdered for just being what they were. The purpose of the book aside from the aforementioned is to pave my way out of the proverbial closet and reveal myself to the world at the same time I can help a very worthwhile cause. My therapist expressed the thought, when we were discussing Diane Kearny's "visit" to this forum a while back, that maybe part of the reason why MtFs seem to have such trouble with "the ladder" is that it's a holdover from their male socialization, that feeling of competitiveness and having to have "one up" on the next person. (Not that women never do this, but it seems much more common and overt with men.) Not ever having really swallowed that particular piece of socialization, I found myself agreeing with him, because even at times when I'm considered to be "on top" of a ladder (not this one but others), I find the things annoying and frustrating. Hello, I've been reading on the net about Dr Bushong's 'Gender Matrix". As usual, tried to figure out how I might fit into the classification. For those not familiar with this -- I would think most everyone here is -- he uses a five axis system to show how complex gender identity can be. The five axis are: 1. Genetic Gender 2. Physical Gender 3. Brain Gender 4. Brain Sex 5. Gender Identity In the article, he uses simply "M" or "F" in his examples. Since these are a continuous spectrum, maybe it's better to use something like M - m - N - f - F to represent from strongly male to weakly male to neutral to weakly female to strongly female. Hi Everyone, I've been stewing about this and wasn't sure where to put it, so decided to get it out on it's own topic... The male testosterone...I've heard makes you "hairier, greaser and more horny.." and that is sticking with me like a raspberry seed in my wisdom tooth. Though I definitely want to transition at some point (and sooner than later is starting to sound super nice) I don't *like* hair on the face, or underarms. It's just me. I have often worn a bra and considered bras the most feminine of clothing usually worn by females. Since taking female hormones, I have wondered whether wearing a bra on a regular basis during the day helps shape one's developing breasts. Thank you for any insights about this subject.

This is just something that came up in a conversation between my partner and I this morning. I thought it rather amusing, so I figured I'd post it. I finally got to watch the movie that my spouse says that she accidentally erased from my DVR, right! I found the DVD on ebay and watched it last night all by myself, well with my two kitties and my dog, but they don't count really. I loved that movie. At the end when the motorcycle guy offered to escort the funeral procession, I never cried so much even when I watched old yeller as a kid. I live in New Hampshire and am in the process of seeking out competent gender specialists: therapists; endocrinologists; surgeons, etc. Nellenelle, if you're still here, I'd really appreciate hearing your thoughts about Dartmouth's program. I've been wondering lately if -- in a large collective sense -- there are noticeable differences between those who say they are women vs those who want to be. I don't want to start any conflaguration here, just to see if any one else has noticed any collective differences between the two different self perceptions. As an example, might "those who want to be" tend towards crossdressing, while "those who are" might tend towards transitioning? Oh, and when I say "those who are" and "those who want to be", I am referring to how they think of themselves, not their physical bodies. I was thinking about how we're all seen as really strange because our gender identities don't match our biological sexes. But when you think about it, we're not all that strange, because we still have gender identities. Gender is a two-party system in our culture, just like the American political system is a two-party system. Just as voting Republican or Democrat isn't all that radical an act, regardless of former party affiliations, being male or female, regardless of physical appearance, isn't all that strange. Hello, After years of hurt and pain, I have come out with my real feelings. It has been a long time for me. I guess it started when I was real little. My sisters used to dress me up. My Mom kept my hair long which was a plus. They would often dress me in their skirts and dresses and put my hair in pony tails with ribbons in them. I have a sort of homemade sports-bra type thing that holds my breast forms in just the right place, looks and feels great, etc, even laying down. I got to wondering a while back, I wonder what would happen if I wore these to bed? Happy Halloween and Samhain! We pretty much sat at home and handed out candy and watched Survivor.. I know, boo. I realized though that I can't do "en femme" for Halloween. It's sort of self-insulting and sending the wrong message to myself. If anything I've had my costume today by not doing anything special.
