Hey everyone As someone who was diagnosed with bipolar disorder, I wonder if it is common among transgender or people who don't prescribe to the gender binary to have some kind of mental illness. Do any of you have bipolar as well (or something similar)? I suppose my biggest fear is that being bipolar will affect my treatment and diagnosis as a transgendered individual. Microsoft has called on me once more in regards to diversity and inclusion in the workplace for transgender people. I have roughly a week or so to write an article which will be presented on the Official Microsoft site. What I'm looking for are personal challenges/experiences that you personally went through good or bad. At this point I have my own information and a handful of locals but thought it prudent to get others from different countries/states.

I was reading through some of my old posts, and some other responses from members before I came here, and noticed something. A lot of people come here, and claim that we're wrong. That what's between our legs is it, and there is no other option for us. Some are seeking to learn, but most are not. I don't know if this is the right board for this or not, but I'm popping it here. We all know what cis means. Someone who identifies with the gender they were born as. But I'm curious as to where the term came from. Is it an acronym? Is it something that just popped out of someone's mouth one day and caught on? Is it an old word that I, for whatever reason, just can't find in the dictionary? This has been bugging me for a while. Is there someone that can enlighten me?

I was thinking about past experiences last night and one popped into my head that made me start laughing all over again. In early January I was invited to present a speech at a local medical center to about 25 resident and non-resident MDs. I worked so hard to make it a good one. I read a great book about TED Talks, spent several hours creating a draft, and presented it to a couple of girlfriends who provided helpful feedback that resulted in a complete do-over. More hours. I'm wondering how you all feel about trans (MtF) athletes competing in sports events who haven't started medical transition? Though I sympathize with them, unless they've been on puberty blockers or HRT, testosterone will generally give them an advantage over their natal female peers, especially in upper-body strength, as we're seeing in competitions where socially transitioned MtF youths are consistently beating their natal counterparts.

So, I lifeguard in the evenings aside fro.from my full time job. Yesterday during a monthly training there were two other guards that kept referring to my in masculine pronouns... I told them politely that I greatly prefer female pronouns and they kept using he and his. BTW, I wear a WOMAN'S SWIMSUIT when working there. Is it too much to ask to not be misgendered in the workplace?

This may be an obvious question, but in case of being caught in public restrooms while dressed up as a girl, is it only a psychiatrist / therapist that can provide a 'safety letter' to avoid trouble with police/ storeowners thinking someone is a perv, or can general practitioners do that as well? I have contacted and been told by a gender therapist that they were unsure what I was referring to when asking about such a letter... whereas I was previously in an area where it was recommended by TG support groups to have a document specifically stating "so and so is undergoing transition" which was apparently acceptable but only if written by that persons psych. My next appointment is now one week away, and I'm nervous. Its been three months since my last appointment and things have been going great, which makes me more nervous than ever. Now I know site rules on dosage info so I will do my best as that's concerned. But it dose make this harder to explain. In one week I will have been on HRT for nine months. I started on a typical low starting dose. After three months at my follow up appointment they doubled my dose of both anti-androgen and estradiol. I’ve been here for about a year and a half now. I’ve met so many amazing people, and learned so much in that time. Many things I never would have thought of, much of which was need-to-know. And unlike other sites I’ve been to, it was offered with love and respect. I’ve seen a few conversations that could be considered controversial, but everyone kept it clean and the language appropriate. This site strives for a PG rating, and it has earned it. I want to meet Robert. I've wanted to meet him for a very long time. But since we'll be there for several days, and I don't plan on sleeping at the museum, I was wondering if anyone knew of any transgender friendly places there. As I watched TransGeneration I was interested in the contrast between Gabbie's openness about being transgendered and Raci's hesitation to acknowledge being transgendered. I believe every person has to find their own comfort level and use what works best for them. As for me; When I went full-time I chose to make a clean break from my former self. This has been a curiosity of mine for years, so I'm going to throw it out there: trans people when you dream are you male, female or neither in your dreams? After my GRS I would sometimes dream that I still had my old bits. Needless to say, this would cause some consternation! It went on for years (I'm 17 years post-op), though they have faded (thankfully!) and now I'm either not aware of my gender in my dreams or I'm female. What are your experiences? All the best!
